Is the nine- July/Aug Sky Show hour school day a bit much for your July 1993 family? If so, you are not alone. A handful of families from the area met recently to discuss alternatives. Ideas ranged from establishing a private school to creating a parent cooperative or perhaps a learning center which could be open to all children. An initial “open house” is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, July 31, at the Community Center in Moab from 10 am. to 7 pm. The purpose of this first meeting is to have Grand County residents begin to identify the issues they think should be addressed in the new master plan. A community’s master plan is important because it is the document that will guide the direction of the county’s growth and because zoning changes need to be consistent with the plan. A well done master plan can help a community anticipate and avoid problems that have troubled other communities in similar situations. The master planning process takes a lot of time—l8 months to 2 years is a reasonable guess. There will be other chances to contribute to the process if you can’t make it to the first general open house. There will probably be several surveys during the early part of the planning. If you would like to help with the planning process, this open house might be a good place to find out how. Time and place of this meeting will be announced in the Moab media when the dates have been confirmed. —Jack Campbell John’s contract with the postal service will provide us with a later . daily deadline.
