Show Believe &t The girls and I couldn't decide whether to bag the tree dad bought and set up or get another more suitable one. After considering the effort he'd gone to we agreed to let well enough alone. He bought the traditional pinion, one that was the right height, the right width, to heck with what was in between, which wasn't much. A few good branches were removed from the bottom, holes were bored in the trunk and the limbs transplanted all across the front which had been sadly neglected by mother nature. He invented a tree stand with a container where the stump absorbs a goodly amount of water each day. Ingenious. What worries us is that all those transplanted branches will become droopy dry by Christmas. We'll be the first family to drag the tree out on Christmas Eve! D. and I went Christmas shopping a week ago. We went down to Orem and you know where.. .we had to rub bods with umpteen other bargain hunters. Disgusted, we came back to Lehi, sat down at a local cafe, had a delicious lunch, did the stores in town and came home with the neatest bunch of gifts you've ever seen! We had a ball! Everyone was smiling, happy, smiled at you and wrapped gifts free. It was greut. Why don't you try it. The Hilos had a Christmas party for their families last Saturday night and over 100 enjoyed the big event. Santa and his wife bounced in while everyone joined in singing "Here Comes Santa Claus, Here Comes Santa Claus." The kids sat on Santa's lap and gave him their lists. Most of them said they'd been good all year, while the mothers and dads smiled wanly in the background. Then one of the little souls handed Santa a map showing where he lived. He was a bit worried because he'd moved in last year, his house is out of town and he was sure Santa couldn't find it. Santa assured the lad that indeed, with the help of his radar-nose- d Rudolph, he would find the place. Jane is hinting around again. She wants new shoes for Christmas.. .It's obvious. She's been wearing Calvin's old blue size 13 Keds around lately. I told her they looked awful. She said, "that's funny, they didn't say.anything when I wore them to church." Guy and Mary Ellen tell me that the most popular Christmas item this year is a game called "Simon." So heavy has been the demand for this Simon game that stores are completely sold out. Santa's elves can't make up the orders fast enough, so moms and dads who weren't on the ball early better prepare junior for his big disappointment. How about the game of Simple Simon? The kids would love it! And it doesn't cost a dime, just time. We've alerted the family that because of inflation, Santa's pack will be a bit smaller this year. I've talked to a lot of folks who are saying the same thing to their children. Remember the days when one small toy, an orange, apple and bit of hard tack was the most thrilling and delightful Christmas a kid could have? Gee, what happened? We used- - to have neighbors that lived across the street who kept their Christmas simple, but no one enjoyed the holiday more than they did. I remember that Mother H. got a case of oranges and a new toilet seat for Christmas. She was tickled pink. She said because of her gift the whole family would be more comfortable in the coming year ! Present PTAs combining forces to present the Growing and Green Circles programs to the students in both schools.
