HAWS - On Thursday, November 11, at 8:00 p.m. in the American Fork High School auditorium a music concert will be held. This concert is being "When we first came to Lehi we had a hard time finding the ' town. We drove right past it." said Olive Leany, a resident of Lehi. On that day Mrs. Leany and her husband had come from Delta, Utah to investigate the possibility of their buying the Golden Rule, a general merchandise store. Once they did find the town and the store they bought it, and in succeeding years her husband, George Woodbury Leany became mayor. Born in Hinkley, Utah on May 30, 1901, Mrs. Leany spent her early years on a farm where she says she and her five sisters shared in the chores, even those traditionally done by men because she had no brothers. In those days, "we could go out on a date and it didn't cost $20. Going out to have a dish of ice cream was a big thing. We didn't have transportation and had to be in by 9 p.m.," she related. "I can remember when I had my first ice cream cone. I was eight years old and it was really something to be able to hold it in your hand and lick it at until there was nothing left. It was the fourth of July and we only paid a nickel. Mrs. Leany attended Millard Academy, a four year high school, and after completion married her husband George in the St. George Temple on May 17, 1918. Shortly after their marriage her husband left for Germany to serve in World War I. The following years brought five children, four of whom are still living. George C. and Evalo live in Lehi and Laveral B. lives in California. She also has a daughter Colleen living in Kearns, Utah. When the Free Press asked Mrs. Leany what she thought were the biggest changes in Lehi she quickly sited the growth of the town. "When my 30-ye-ar City.
