While at the convention Senator Dean also expressed the need for comprable wages for employees working in training schools across the nation, pointing out that wages for persons working in state training schools are far below wages normally paid other employees in social services work. Senator Ernest Dean Speaks Nat. Confab in Chicago At Senator invited Ernest H. Dean was to speak before the National Convention of Superin- tendents of Training Schools such as the State Training School in American Fork and before a meeting of Parents of Retarded Citizens held in C hicago, September 19, 1974. Two other Utahn's attended the meetings, Superintendent Paul Sagers ot the State Training School and Mrs Byron (Elaine) Sharp, Executive Director of the Mental Retardation Association of Utah, the parents organization representing the State Training School. Senator Dean complimented the superintendents of the nations' 246 state and local training schools for the retarded for organizing themselves into a national association and for working with Congress and state legislatures in providing Don Stone Stone Named Brea Dist Coordinator Donald Stone was named Coordinator of Special Services a of the Unified School District. Mr. Stone has been principal of Laurel School for the past 11 years and a veteran of 17 years in the employ of Brea Schools. He was instrumental in the Kar-lProgram conducted during the first year at Laurel Elementary School. The program has been such a success that it has been expanded. According to district officials, "soft spoken, Donald is known for getting the job done. He is very thorough and conscientious. He is concerned for every individual. He is a hard worker and we are proud to have him in the Brea Schools." Mr. Stone graduated from Lehi High School, attended the University of Utah and graduated from Brigham Young University. He earned his Masters Degree at Long Beach State. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Arvil 0. Stone of Lehi. He married the former Ann Smith of Virginia and they are parents of two daughters and a son. The time and place of each class is listed on the following pages. COMMUNITY EDUCATION The purpose of Community Education is to serve all the people, regardless of their age, with programs and activities that interest them. Everyone is invited to participate. FEES Registration fees are listed with each class. Cost of books and supplies used by the student is in addition to the registration fee. REGISTRATION Students should register at the first class period or during the daytime at the school where the class is held. Fee may be paid to the secretary of the school. CREDIT The classes do not carry credit unless listed under the Adult High School schedule. If high school credit for another course is desired, special arrangements should be made with Udell Westover, Director of Adult Education. DRIVER'S EDUCATION A course in driver education is designed for students 1 6 years of age and older and not attending regular daytime school.
