JULY 5, 1973 Miniature Parade Winners The winners of the 1973-7- 4 miniature parade float contestants were announced after another exhibition of artistry and creativity by local groups. The Sweepstakes Winner was the Pioneer Market's exquisite and original entry, "Engine, Engine, Number 9". First Place went to the Ninth Ward for a clever and colorful "Never Smile at a Crocodile," "Tugboat Annie" the Fifth Ward's entry won Second Place and "Seeds of the Future" a colorful entry by the Third Ward won Third Place. A beautiful float done in shades of lavender entitled, "Cinderella" won Fourth Place, and an animated float, complete with a whirling Peter Pan was the Fifth Place winner and was entered by the Letitian Club. The Lehi Drug won Sixth Place with a float featuring an cook stove entitled Cookin." shed by bands from neighboring including Am. PI. Grove, Springville, Fork and Spanish Fork. There were gaily decorated bicycles ridden by Lehi's younger set and various humorous participants including clowns. A number of marching groups participated including the fabulous Lehi Pionettes, a precision group with exciting formations and excellent marching ability. The Summer Recreation Dance group put in an appearance as did the Suzettes, a dancing group taught by Suellen Baum. Stewart Wilson won a four pound canned ham, Dennis Morgan walked away with a three pound ham and Tammy Keele, a dainty little girl, proved even girls can climb. She won a one and pound ham. The Council members discussed the proposed salary schedule for FY 1973-7Mayor Clark reported that Scott Robinson has completed the state schooling and is now a certified operator. The Council had agreed to give him a raise when he completed the school. It was decided to check salary of other operators in the area before making a decision. The salary of Lester Holcomb was also discussed. The Council agreed to further study on the proposed salaries and to make a final decision at a later meeting. A proposed agreement between Lehi City and Don A. Peterson which will allow him to recover a portion of his cost of the water and sewer lines he installed on 100 South between 200 and 300 East. The agreement as proposed was approved by the Council. Representatives of the Burroughs Co. and the NCR Company were present. Each was given a few minutes to discuss their proposals for the computor machine for Lehi. Mayor Clark thanked the groups for their attendance and information. The representatives left the meeting at this time. The Council discussed the machines and agreed to let the order with NCR as per minutes of previous meeting stand. Most of the expense of the activities was paid out of income from the activities with the exception of the Youth Council Dance. The Council agreed to pay the $125.00 cost of the dance. All members felt the celebration was successful this year. Mr. Arden Draeger of the Provo Herald was present to request the Councils putting an ad in the 100th Anniversary Issue of the Herald on August 5. The cost would be $262.08. This would replace the progress edition ad that the City normally puts in. The ad would be shared with the Civic ImproveAll-re- out the cost with the city. The Council approved the appointment. Mr. Calton reported he had approved the Street Department working from 7:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. in order to take plant advantage of the black-tohours. The Council voted to adopt the job classification system as proposed by Shane Luck of the Public Service Careers Office. The Council discussed the requested zone change in the area from Fourth East to Second East and from First North to Third North, as recommended by the Planning and Zoning Commission. A public hearing was set for August 6, 1973 at 7:30 p.m. at the regular Council meeting. Mayor Clark noted that the Council will not hold another meeting in July.
