She, together with the other outstanding business students from Fork. Pleasant Grove, Orem, Provo, Springville and Spanish Fork High Schools as well as Utah Technical College at Provo and Brigham Young University, were guests for dinner at the Oak Crest Inn For Spring which tends to be "That body's business ' THURSDAY, APRIL no- then becomes business." everybody's of How avoided us have picking many up a piece of litter along the street or on a sidewalk, or have swerved our car to keep from running over an object on the and then continued our way without removing it, thinking "it's not my responsibility." If not our business or responsibility, then whose? If someone didn't care enough to "make it his business" to tend to things which seem to be "nobody's business," aneigh-borhoo- d, city, or state could soon become a dirty, drab, place to live. An estimated one billion dollars is spent each year to pick up litter in Americal In Utah of a milapproximately one-thilion dollars a year goes down the drain because of thoughtless actions by citizens - and this is what it costs to pick up the litter from our State highways alone, which is only part of the problem. The problem extends to private and public grounds, including parks, lakes, streams and mountains. Maybe each of us, as an individual, would consider picking up a can or piece of litter each day. This would amount to approximately 4,700 cans or pieces of litter each day. It wouldn't take many days to make our city one of the cleanest places in the world if each one of us did his share. The County Beautification Committee has suggested the fol lowing program for the coming year: March - Clean Up, Paint Up. April - Lawns, Renovation, Care. May - Plant Flowers, Gardens. June - Private Gar dens Improved, Tours, Recogni tion. July - Churches, Public Buildings Beautified and Maintenance. August - Entire com- -, munity judging. September - Recognition (dinner, awards, program). October - Fall Clean Up. The Lehi Beautification Committee endorses the plan and will try to put emphasis on the various phases of the program during the summer. They urge all citizens to get in the "spirit of the program" and each do his part to make Lehi the cleanest and prettiest community in the country. MISS JANET WEBB, BRENT G.
