Nielsen, educator, and civic worker, was I honored recently by the Lehi ; Elementary PTA. Mr. Nellsen ' has announced his retirement at the close of the school year. During his 23 years in Lehi, he has ably filled many posi-- : Hons of leadership in addition : to his regular teaching assignments. He served 11 years on the Alpine Educational Association Council, was a delegate to the NEA convention in Atlantic City, New Jersey, was a member of the Utah State Council for Classroom Teachers Organization and represented the District at two Southwest Regional Conventions. He served as Official Representative for the district in several conventions and house of delegates and has taken an active part in political organizations and served for one year as a State Representative. For five years he was a counselor in the Lehi Third Ward. He then became bishop of the Seventh Ward, a position he held for five and a half years. He married Ruby Moser on May 4, 1932 in the Salt Lake Temple. They are the parents of four children, Mrs. Earl (Arlene) Lewis, Notato, Calif; Lynn Nielsen and Donald Nielsen; and Mrs. Karl (Carol) Zimmerman, all of Lehi. Foxes are now raised for fur farms on Prince Edward Is I land, Canada. on ' I Bands Join For Robert Comer, 77 Concert Frithy Robert Comer, 77, died Sunday at 4:10 a.m., in the Am. Fork Hospital, of a heart ailment. A long time worker at the Utah State Training School in Am. Fork, be had resided in Lehi for many years, and had moved to Am. Fork three years ago. Mr. Comer was born in Lehi, Jan. 4, 1890, a son of George Lorenzo and Mary Jones Comer. He was married to Mable Brown in Salt Lake City. Dec. 31, 1917. He followed farming and poul try as a vocation and was also employed at the Training School for 17 years. He was a member of the LDS Church. He is survived by a wife. Am. Fork, one son and three daugh ters, LaGrand Comer, Fremont City, Calif.; Mrs. Clyde (Barbara) Adamson and Miriam Comer, Am. Fork, and Mrs. Madonna Rossi, Hollywood, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. David (Hazel) Roberts, Lehi; nine grandchil dren and eight ranged for Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Wing Mortuary Chapel in Lehi, with interment in the Lehi City Cemetery. 3 More than 500.000 New York City children use the subways or buses to et to school each sf v r We The Lehi Junior High School Band Is playing host to the Am. J S ' mmmtnl 77? i F Kennecott Employees Seek Perfect Bond Buying Record Kennecott employees, who this month were presented an award for "Outstanding Service in Support of the U.S. Savings Bonds Program," begin their 1967 drive in May with a determination to reach a 100 per cent participation by all employees. Among other things, the award paid tribute to employees for consistently purchasing bonds during the past 25 years. In accepting the award for employees, J. P. O'Keefe, Utah Copper Division General Manager, said: "We are fortunate in having the support of our union leaders, because this has been a joint effort with a great deal of deep and sincere cooperation. . . . We are proud of our employees, we are proud of what they have done." Last year, employees attained a 96.1 per cent participation in bond buying. In 1965, the percentage was 95.05; 1964, 86.96; 1963, 75.58; and 71.37 for 1962. Many classroom experiences of his students were recalled in which he helped a shy student, instilled self-co- n fidence in another, made singing in ior the whole class and made the lessons become alive as they visited places of Interest in field trips and prepared reports to be exchanged with other schools. "His real concern for the wel fare of his students has always been an inspiration to us who work with him. His whole life has been one of service. We own him a debt of gratitude for his long and valued service. Mr. Nielsen began his formal ed education in a school house at Silver Star, Idaho. At the age of nine he rode his horse Into Weston, a distance of about three jiles, where he attended for three miles, where he attended for three years. He graduated from eighth grade at Cache, Teton scholar in the county, and received special honors at the gra duation exercises. He attended Ricks College in Rexburg and served as studentbody president during his senior year, gradu ating in 1929. He then attended the University of Idaho at Mos cow. He filled a mission for the IDS Church in the Central States. After returning home he began his career as a teacher at Bancroft, Idaho, where he taught the fourth, fifth and sixth grades at the Ivins Elementary Shool. ne conunuea 10 leacn in iaano at Chesterfield and Bancroft from 1940 to 1943, and also held the principalship at Goshen Elementary School, Bingham County, and taught the seventh and eighth grades. In 1943 he moved his family to Provo so he could get his Bachelor degree at the BYU, which he did, graduating in 1945. In the fall of 1945, he moved to Lehi and taught the ninth grade at the Lehi High School for one ; year and served as principal of the Alpine School for one year, then moved to the Lehi Elementary School where he has taught Lehi, A.
