Miss Uou Klrtham Miss Lorraine Goates Miss Lelii Pageant Attracts Five More Contestants Special f e at u r e s which have been arranged will combine with the talent performance of the contestants in providing an evening of top entertainment at the 'Miss Lehi' pageant, Thursday, August 26, at the Lehi High School. The program will begin at 8 p.m. and admission will be $1 for adults and 50 cents for children under 12 years of age. Talented and atrractive Lehi girls will vie for the title of Miss Lehi," and her two attendants. 'Miss Lehi" will, in turn, be sponsored in the 'Miss Utah" contest next Spring. In addition, many exciting and worthwhile experiences have been arranged for her, in special appearances, gifts and h o n o r s . Lehi business men and merchants are contributing gifts and funds to be used in honoring all of the girls who participate in the local pageant, is reported. Luncheon in the Hotel Utah's "Sky Room, Monday at 1 p.m will be followed by a glamorous fashion show. This modeling instruction will d leatured also at the rehearsal Wednesday, at the high school. " ' :' NEW CONTESTANTS New contestants have regis tered this week, including the following: LEONA KIRKHAM Miss Leona Kirkham, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Leon Kirk ham, is being sponsored by the Athenian Club. She will perform a variety act. Leona has grad uated from the Lehi High School and also from business college, the Felt and Tarrant Compto meter and IBM School. She has also taken special courses in pi ano, violin and organ. During high school, she played violin in the orchestra for four years, was a cheerleader, member of the Pep Club and dance director for her Senior Hop. She was chosen attendant to the Home coming Queen and also intheFu ture Farmers of America royalty. She sang in ensembles, in cluding the one for her Sopho more Slide. She also has played piano and organ for church af fairs. MARY LEE HADFIELD Mary Lee Hadfield, gifted artist, is a daughter of Mr and Mrs. Horace Hadfield. She is being sponsored by the Leity young Club. She plans to display some of her paintings and will combine music and acting in a stage per formance. She has taken a prom inent part in designing and paint lng scenery for high school pro ductions, including the lavish background for "Brigadoon," as well as school plays and other features. Winner of the Best Actress of the Year," award for her performance in the school play. She was in the Pep Club, serv ing as historian, and was titled "Best Artist," also. She plays the organ for her ward Sunday School. The recipient of an art scholarship to the Trade Tech nical Institute, she plans to con tinue her study of commercial art, or closely related subjects. DEANNA PRICE Miss Deanna Price, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dean J. Price, was selected by the Lehila Club. She will play a piano selection, Deanna spent a year at Utah state University in Logan, where she was affiliated with Pi Rho Omega sorority, served on the paper and yearbook staff and sang in the concert choir. USU. acrobatic ROCKETTES.'-vtrsat- ile 'Miss Lehi Pageant," Utah Rockettes to Appser As Feature of Miss Lehi Peasant The Committee, in completing plans for the Fourth Annual 'Miss Lehi" Pageant, lias made ar rangements to present the "Utah Rockettes as a specialty act at the coming "Miss Lehi' Pageant on Thursday evening, August 26. These youngsters have re ceived acclaim in their own local area of Provo and Orem and went on to further success at the New York World's Fair where they performed on two occasslons at the New York State Pavilion and on the Ted Mack Amateur Hour T.V. Show. They competed in the Inter mountain Amateur Talent Contest, sponsored by Eugene Jelesnik in Salt Lake City and won first place from, a field of thirty variety numbers. This trip to New York City to appear on the national television program was given to them as the first prize in the state competition. The group is made up of 15 who range in age from 8 to 13 and besides having natural rhythmic abilities and great girls flexibility of movement, they have been professionally trained in acrobatic dance. Mrs. Dorothy Barclay of Provo and Mrs. Margaret Turner of Orem have been their Insturctors, training and coaching eachgirl and providing the choreography for their numbers. While in the east, they were guests of Congressman King and his wife, enjoying luncheon at the State Capitol in Washington, D.C. They will present their numbers titled an "Acrobatic Fantasy," on the stage of the Leal High School Auditorium as an added atrractlon tor out Miss Lehi Pageant. Because they have been so well received at all their performances, this win be a real opportunity for residents of the northern Utah County area to see them perform. Tickets for the Pageant are available in business houses in downtown Lehi and will be sold at the door. Curtain time is 8 p.m. (Adults $1.00, children under 12, 50 cents). Lehi Hi School Studsnts Register ftondoy, Principal Dale H. Price of the Lehi High School, announced the opening of school on Monday, August 30, with a welcome to the incoming students. If there are any new students in the community, they are asked to contact the school any time next week, is the reminder, so that classes may be lined up and registration effected. Also, Mr. Price announced if any students who attended last year desire to make a change in their courses, they may contact the counselors next week. so that they may receive help.
