In some past years, mosquitoes have been produced by the hundreds of thousands from one end of the County to the other. However, the present mosquito cootrolprogramis now preventing the production of large numbers of mosquitoes in most places. Four spray crews and their supervisors are continually working to locate and treat the mosquito breeding areas In the rural parts of the County. Mosquito control Is a big job. The ponds' and swamps which do not produce mosquitoes have to be located and identified so that they win not be treated by the spray crews. On the other hand, waste irrigation water standing on pasture lands may produce large numbers of mosquitoes. These must be found and treated within a few days or else the young mosquitoes win emerge and fry to nearby areas. Sluggish, weed fUled ditches, poorly drained borrow pits and run-o- ff water from flowing wells offer mosquitoes many an ldealbreed-in- g place. Along with the treatment of mosquito infested waters with approved chemicals, mosquito control personnel In cooperation with the County Commission and the County Agent's Office, are encouraging better water management programs. With better water management practices, most of the mosquito production In Utah County could be prevented. Because some mosquitoes have already emerged as adults, provisions have been made to kill these adults by means of a fogging machine. County citizens can help with the mosquito control program by notifying their local officials of suspected mosquito breeding areas.
