Lehi Post 19 of the American Legion, with Pasl Evans as the current commander, received three top awards at State Convention, held daring the weekend at the Holiday Inn In Salt Lake City. They received the award for child welfare assignments performed and two awards for membership, une ox mese is me coveted Parley Jensen gaveL as signed for the top percentage of membership attained. Lehi was represented at the joint meeting by Commander Evans, Dennis v. rincn, lm mediate past commander who is now district commander; Wayne Persson and Norman D. Scown, former post commander and lm mediate past district com mander, who was a candidate for the position of Department Second vice commander. With them were their wives. Mrs, John (Idea) Ernst and Mrs. Ora Peterson were also in attendance, Mrs. Ernst is serving on the Girls State committee. Department commander Ted R. Johnson introduced the Na tiooal Commander, Donald E. Johnson of Iowa. A representative of the state governor's of fice. Mayor J. Bracken Lee and Commissioner Larsen of Salt Lake County, were speakers. El-dJames of Virginia, came by plane to attend the convention. He Is a candidate for the post of National Commander. Reports at the business ses sions highlighted the your pro gram, including Boys State and oratory contests, and the various phases of the service program which includes G. I. Insurance and the Veterans Hospital. Betty Allen conducted memorial serv ices for those who have passed away daring the year. Among thses was the father of Comman der Finch. The past commanders' lunch eon, the annual department ban quet and floor shows and dancing aided in renewing friendships and making acquaintances. General Pattern's Prayer was presented by an LDS Stake Troop 6 of Cedar Valley at tained first place ratine at the Scout Court of Honor, held at Wines Park, with Troop 3 of the Third Ward as the host troop. Troop 7 received second place rating and Troop 8 attained third place honors. The encouragement award was presented to Troop 1 of the First Ward. The next Court of Honor will be July 8, with Troop 5 as host. Charles Porter took charge of the meeting and colors were posted by Third Ward scouts. Robert Turner offered the opening prayer. The group sang. "America, and Alvln Broadbent gave the opening address. Present in the Eagles' Nest were Kerry Welch and Wesley Elton. She spent 10 days in the Lehi Hospital, in traction, and has since worn a heavy supporting collar, and Michael Evans, with weight applied while sleep ing. . Parker received the First class badge, Mike Evans as Den Chief, and merit badges were presented to Krag Parker for citizenship in the community, swimming and hiking; Grady Southwick, read ing; Dwight Parker, hiking and swimming, reading. Rank advancements were made and merit badges were awarded as follows: Troop 2 - Merit badges for swimming were presented to Howard Loverldge and Victor Hoover. Troop 3 - Eldwln Fox received the First Class badge and Gene Francom the second class badge Randy K. Moore received a merit badge for Nature; Edwin Sunder land for beef production and horsemanship; Mike Curtis for automobile safety andphotogra phy; and Paul Gardner for home repairs. The troop did a good turn, went on an overnight outing and held a party. Troop 6 (Cedar Valley) - Ned Carson received the Star award.
