United Fund Drive John H. Van Wagoner, executive director. United Fund of Utah County, announced Friday that the cost of last fall's campaign amounted to only 2.8 per cent of the $143,000 total raised during the first drive. The initial effort was conducted in October, November and early December. In his report to citizen owners the local United Fund director said all other administrative costs of the local Fund, up to start of the next drive in September, are expected to total only about 5.6 per cent of the amount raised last fall Included as administrative expenses are funds not directly allocated to member agencies or services, he said, such as costs for full-tifund-raisi- secdirector, part-tiretary, fund administration and me allocation, pledge collection, supplies, rental, and all others. He pointed out that campaign and administrativecostsof United Fund of Utah County, even in the first year, will add up to considerably less than the national average for United Funds of comparable size. He emphasized that this also Olympian Club Tours Museum amounts to only a small fraction of national averages for and administration paid out by health, welfare, or youth guidance agencies conducting separate drives. Mr. Van Wagoner said the objective of the Utah County citizen Fund was to seek participation by all legitimate services, agencies and health organizations meeting basic qualifications for membership. fund-raisi- of the season for the Olympian Club was their tour of the Hutchings Museum, conducted by John Hutchings, and Mrs. Lehi A highlight naturalist, Hutchings. Mrs. Eldred Fox, club presidnet, took charge and refreshments were served in the seasonal theme. Plans are going forward for the Olympian Club spring tea in honor of the girl graduates of the Lehi High School, their mothers and the mothers of club members. ng ng Conceit may puff a man up Daylight Calls On April long distance telephone rates will drop for the second time in two months Darrell W. If during his twelve grades at school, the student loses 12 year of first grade, 17 of each year seventh through twelfth grades as a result of a six period day compared to a seven period day, plus 23 of an academic school year to his seminary program, he finds himself more than two full years behind the masses. Everything else being equal, this puts him at a sharply defined disadvan tage in a world that gives no quarter. Many of our students rise above the handicap, but the situation leaves its mark on many others. The board and its employees are to be congratulated on the move to a fun day district wide first grade. help Gam (Mary) Mason, SprlngvUle, and Mrs. George (Elva) Davis, Provo. The Alpine School District will make an important forward stride with implementation of fun day first grade for the 1965-6- 6 school year. This represents the fulfillment of on of the most sharply defined local educational needs. At present the Alpine School District Is on of but three districts in the state that do not provide this opportunity for its first grade children. If the local students arc to compete in terms of higher education and practical life situations, they can no longer afford such handicaps. The all day first grade win ake for an additional strain uon ihe present crowded conditions of many schools. Faculty rooms, library sites, and specialized areas win be drawn upon to make it possible. However, with the new addition at Geneva Elementary and new elementary schools at American Fork and Pleasant Grove, some of the pressure will be removed. Major changes of this nature necessitate considerable Juggling in the location of teaching personnel and the sites for student attendance. Principals and supervisors are giving the best of themselves to make these changes as equitable and pleasant as possible. The cooperation of both patrons and teachers win be a factor in the ease with which the transition is made. This fun day first grade pro gram win entail the addition of 21 new teachers in the district. Many of these have already been hired. The remainder will be under contract by September 1965. At an average annual wage of $6,000.00, this represents a vearly cash outlay of $126, PUS THE LEHI FftEE Friends Pay Final i - If Great-grandmoth- ers Fork. LOOK! LOOK!
