Show 1 THE LEHI FREE PRESS THURSDAY, MARCH 21, 1963 Nettie McAffee Honored on Jr. High Band Mrs. Annette (Nettie) McAffee, 92 years young on March 12, joined in family festivities for the occasion on that date at a restaurant and ballroom in Salt Lake patient, continues at the pital this week. was highlighted by a band concert given by the junior high school band. The meeting was held at the junior high school auditorium, Monday, March 18. An outstanding performance was given by students of the sixth, seventh and eighth grades under the direction of Preston Bushman, instructor. Principal J. Ferrin Gurney offered the opening prayer and the colors were presented by National Guard members. Mrs. Don Fowler led in the pledge of allegiance. Mrs. Gary Cooper, junior high PTA president, gave the address of welcome. Officers Elerted Mrs. Joseph Zupan, high school PTA president, took charge of election of officers for the coming season. Kathryn Proctor was elected president, with Shirley Mc- Naughton chosen as vice president. Evan Colledge offered the closing prayer. Those present viewed an outstanding science fair display following the band concert. Mrs. Nettie McAffee Boyd McAffee, a grandson, now of Provo, was master of ceremonies and Mrs. Hazel Dunsdon, a niece, presented a tribute on the program which featured family talent. A decorated cake highlighted the dinner table and a lavish array of flowers represented the gifts of family members. Her son. Reed McAffee, phoned good wishes from Harbor City, Calif., and his sons, Calvin and Jerry, sent telegrams. Besides Boyd McAffee, her grandson, Dr. Don McAffee and Mrs. Dale Rus-so- n (Mava) of Salt Lake City, were present, with 16 of her 18 in attendance. Those from Lehi included, besides Mrs. Dunsdon, nieces, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Ash (Alta), Mr. and Mrs. Vern Whipple (Lexia), Mr. and Mrs. Vern Webb (Lucille) and Mr. and Mrs. Afton Giles, close friends. A native of Witsom, Denmark, Annette Johnson McAffee was born March 12, 1871, a daughter of Peter and Christian Jensen Johnson. She came to Utah at the age of three years, with her parents and family as converts to the LDS Church. They settled in Lehi in 1874, later living in American Fork and also Pleasant Grove. She was married to Ephraim S. McAffee of Charleston, Utah, Feb. 4, 1895. Following his death, Nov. 28, 1905, she supported her two sons by working at the Kirkham ' Knitting factory, at the Lehi su-and also as a nurse. factory gar She formerly lived in a home where Wines Park now stands and later moved to her home on East Fifth North. She has found time for extensive church activity and served as a Relief Society visiting teacher for many years. Bishop Sanders officiated in the presence of close family members. Iincluded in .the group were the sons and daughters of the couple. Besides Mr. and Mrs. Hansen, Mr. and Mrs. Dahrl Tingey, now of Salt Lake City; Valdean Tingey and Miss Dora Mines; Mr. and Mrs. Dean Romrell of Kearns; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Romrell and Mr. and Mrs Burton Romrell, Salt Lake City; Miss Anna Jane Romrell, student at Utah State University in Logan; Marie Romrell of Salt Lake City, and Mr. and Mrs Garth Hansen and Reed Hansen, were present. The new Mrs. Romrell was attired in a rose beige model with beaded trim, enhanced with an orchid corsage. Following a wedding trip, the couple will return to Lehi April 1. and will make their home here. Mrs. Romrell served for several years on the stake board of the Primary Assn. She has operated a mercantile business here and has traveled extensively demonstrating handicrafts. Mr. Romrell engaged in farming in St. Anthony, Idaho, and for the past year has been employed as a watchmaker for the Zale's concern in Salt Lake City.
