Smith Plan Ian. 12 Wedding Of interest to friends in two cities comes the announcement of the engagement and approaching marriage of Miss Jacquelynne (Jackie) Flygare, daughter of Mrs. Ronald Flygare of Lehi, and Dean M. Smith. Mr. Smith is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dean L. Smith of American Fork. Friday Jan. 12, is the date selected for the wedding to take Ward place in the Third-Sevenchurch at 6 p.m. An open house reception will be held in the ward hall with receiving from 8 to 10 p.m. All friends and relatives are cordially invited to attend. is a prospective graduate of the Lehi High School. She graduated from LDS Seminary. She is a member of the A Capella choir at the school and has taught in Sunday School. She has also attained her individual awards in the LDS church program. Mr. Smith graduated from the American Fork High School and is employed by the Timpanogos Motor Company in American Fork. The young couple plan to make their home in American VISIT AT HAYWARD HOME Among those visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Hayward were Dr. and Mrs. George Eason and Mr. and Mrs. Dale Anderson . and their families, of Salt Lake City; Mrs. Martha Hay-war- d of American Fork, and Mr. and Mrs. Byron Nelson of Provo. Jesse Wagstaff, Cornell University Student in New York, accompanied his parents, Mr. and Mrs. David Wagstaff of American Fork. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hay-wardown from Washington State, also joined the family group. Special greetings were brought to Miss Sheila Hayward, just returned from the Northern California Mission. RICHARD COOPER FAMILY VISITS FROM KANSAS CITY Mr. and Mrs. Richard Cooper and three children, Robyh, Ricki and Kelli Jene, of Kansas City, Missouri, arrived Dec. 23, for a visit with his mother, Mrs. Jose phine Cooper, and other family members. They left Monday for the return trip. Joining in family gatherings were Mr. and Mrs. JJB. Cooper and five children and Mr. and Mrs. Gary Cooper and four children, of Lehi, and Mr. and Mrs. Howard E. Deseret, was a holiday visitor at the home of Mrs. Ed Brunson. Miss Christensen, recently returned from Korea where she was employed in Civil Service, was a close neighbor and friend of the Brunsons in Juneau, Alaska. The Alpine Soil Conservation District has now been in operation sixteen years. The present Board of Supervisors consist of Leo P. Harvey. Chairman. Nyal Wadley, Vice Chairman, J. Earl Smith, Treasurer and Equipment Super visor, John Swenson, and Paul Blackhurst. members. R. Garn Holbrook (past supervisor) is the Secretary of the District. Leo Harvey and Earl Smith were appointed when the District was organized and have served continuously since. Leo Harvey has been President of the State Association. The District holds regular Board Meetings on the 2nd Monday of each month. In addition to the regular meetings, a number of special meetings were held to conduct District business. The District held a number of meetings to assist the Governor's Emergency Water Conservation Committee in a survey of drouth conditions and make water needs inventory throughout the District. This resulted in many water conservation practices to be installed saving many crops. The District was the host to Zone II Meetings held at Pleasant Grove in which 44 Supervisors, their wives and others attended. This meeting was followed by a tour of some of the watershed projects and other con servation projects in the District. Three other tours were conducted during the year to acquaint the public with the coordinated effort of solving conservation problems in our District. A dinner meeting was held to honor Claude Hunting as 1960 outstanding farmer of the year. Many other meetings were attended by the Supervisors to as sist in policy of other agricultural groups with the District and State. Five Supervisors attended the annual meeting of the Nation al Association held at Memphis, Tenn. All Supervisors attended the State Association Meeting as well as the Zone Meeting. More people in the District are being conservationists, their attitude toward conservation has increased this past year and the use of conservation practices is still on the increase. Watershed Activities The District, as one of the elev en sponsors of the American Fork-Dr- y Creek Watershed was very active in assisting the wat ershed Committee in carrying out their program of treatment in the watershed. Additional foundation informs tion was needed on Silver Lake Flat Reservior Site. This has been completed along with foundation investigations of Dry Creek and Tibbie Fork Retarding Dams. Dry Creek designs are near completion and the contract will be let in May of the coming year. Land treatment for watershed protection has been completed on the Mill Canyon area of the Am erican Fork drainage, also along the foot hills above Pleasant This treatment was completed by the Forest Service. Flash storms did occur in local ized areas in the District but none occured on the treated area to test their effectiveness. Grove. Mrs. May Bone also joined with the group here at the New Year's dinner at the Cooley home in American Fork. The North Utah County Water Conservancy District hold their regular monthly meetings on the second Thursday. There are eleven directors on the Committee. They are Leo P. Harvey, Chair man; Burton Adams, Pleasant Grove; Yukus Inouye, Highland and Manila; DD. Adamson, deceased. Alpine: Glen Anderson, American Fork"; Harold Westring, Lehi; James Peters, Irrigation Companies; Rulon Nicholes, Coun ty Commission; J. Earl Smith. Al pine S.C.D.; Ken Beck, Sheepmen- and Wendell Moyle, Cattlemen. The Conservancy District Is still trying to get a loan from Farmers Home Administration to assist them in construction under the watershed. The four irrigation companies have received loans from Utah Water and Power Board for improvement of their irrigation systems. The Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation furnished additional money into the watershed for the step-u- p conservation program. Additional money was also received for conservation measures through the Emergency Drouth Program. Equipment ' The District furnished a slip form, ditch shaper and tractor to assist 95 Cooperators for the construction of 30 miles of lined ditches. This is proving very satisfactory and has accelerated in stallation of ditch lining many times. The District also made available to the Cooperators forms for irrigation turnouts for concrete ditches.
