The committee consists of the council of state governments and includes a representative from each state legislative, executive, or administrative and also a few representatives of the national conference on uniform state laws. The work of the committee is to consider significant legislative proposals which should be acted upon by the various state legislatures and to bring back recom- mendations. Senator OrviU Hafen of St. George has represented Utah on this committee for the past four years. The committee meets annually y for a workshop, with tire 1961 meeting scheduled for Sept. 21 and 22 at Washington, D. C. In the junior high schools, teachers who have received special training will teach groups of pupils using materials developed by the school mathematics study group. Work will be conducted in specific schools in connection with long range studies o the teaching of reading, spelling and arithmetic. In the Pleasant Grove Junior High School, the modified adoption of the Joplan Plan of reading will be followed another year. They remain with this teacher for one hour and then return to their regular classes. One teacher has the fast moving pupils while another teacher works with those whose progress in reading is relatively slow.
