Show mm Otewe Of i&mmcm Etetioi U Lehi Schools, A concerted effort on the part of the Lehi schools and Parent-TeacheAssociation groups has resulted in special observances for American Education Week, Nov. Parents visiting days in all schools have been arranged to coincide with this week, set aside for mutual information and understanding between the parents and the schools. Plans for observance of this special week were made at a meeting of the school principals and PTA presidents early in October. At that time, each school agreed on a specific assignment, which has been carried out in an outstanding effort by each one. Window displays have been placed on Main Street by the Elementary School and on State Street by the Sego Lily School. A one-aplay, prepared by the Junior High School will be presented at a rlA meeting m January. Cedar Valley PTA arranged for posters to be placed in Cedar Valley and Lehi. These were made by the art students at the high school, directed by Dean Welch, rs 2. ct instructor. Strengthening Schools The overall theme for Education Week is, "Strengtehening the Schools for the 60s." with daily themes also outlined. Posters have brought these before the students and the public as well. Themes Written by Students As an activity in the English classes of junior and senior high schools, themes have been written on suggested subjects, pertinent to observance of this special week. Each has been carefully rated by the Education committee, and those considered the best are published here. In one class (sophomore) there wetre two considered equal in merit. States has to set an example for Anita Persson, 8th Grade Freedom in our country is one of our most prized possessions. A person doesn't realize how this could tie in with school, until he stops and takes time out to really think about it. However, when men and women began to leave their profession for military service and defense jobs, a shortage of good qualified teachers became a very serious problem. In the 1940's the birthrate increased sharply, adding to the already serious problem. The difficulty was in getting interested people into the field of education. Many states offered scholarships to college students. Most of our states require that our teachers, after receiving their degree, have additional study at regular intervals in order to keep their teaching certificates renewed and in force. Often tearjhers need encouragement or help in continuing their education after college graduation. It is very important that a teacher teach subjects he himself is good at, is trained in, and is in par-entsa- re If the parents are interested in their child's schooling, then a favorable educational system will be found. If the parents don't care, then no one else bothers to worry about the educational system either. It is the interested parent who puts interest into his child. Parents who are deeply concerned about their children want them to get all they can out of school, and will instill enthusiasm into them. Students don't realize the vital importance of schooling until they are older and on their own. It takes a parent who knows of its importance to help the student. Our parents do the voting for the School Board Members. The Interested narent will study the qualifications of these people and have only the best men running their schools. Parents vote on the school bond for the raising of taxes for the use of schools. Parents should study this bond carefully to knowis of its need. If more money needed it's up to them to see that it is voted for. Many surveys are taken to find out the attitude of our parents toward the school system of their the interested parent who will take time to fill out the Inquiry and not push it aside for someone else. It didn't need to happen but it did. Now I know how to prevent this. The janitors cannot do job well without cooperation of all the students of our school.
