Great-grandparen- ts Irirv s:iri mive ROSE FAMILY ON THANKSGIVING DAY Of interest to numerous relatives and friends here comes the announcement of the birth of a baby girl to Stewart Rose and Reta Carol Dorton Rose in Manhattan, New York, on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26. Jamie is the name chosen for the little miss, first child of the' Rose family. Mr. Rose is a singer and entertainer and his wife, the former Reta Carol Dorton, has followed dancing with the "Rockettes" group for several years. Her brother, Joseph Dorton, visiting at the Rose home lor the holiday weekend, was present for the occasion-Hhas now returned to his home here after six months training at Fort Belvoii, Virginia, under the National Guird program. He received training in the chemical treatment for purification of water supply. He plans to attend Brigham Young University. They left in September and have been visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Richer f parents ' of Mrs. Bean, and other family members and friends. Some time was spent in Phoenix with family members. Larsen of the Stake High Priests' presidency, who served as general chair man. Brent Mackay, formerly of Lehi, was the Master of Cere monies for the male singingg group. Graciously, the chorus sang several numbers especially for those working in the kitchen, near the end of the evening. Over 300 were in attendance, including High Priests and their wives and the widows of High Priests. The opening song, by the congregation, was "Far, Far Away on Judea's Plains,", directed by Vernon K. Nielsen and accompan ied by Alvin Schow. High Priests' President Randal Schow gave the speech of welcome and the invocation and blessing on the food was spoken by Dean T:' Worltori." Leo Bennion offered the benediction. Supper was served following the program, the Sixth Ward Rei y lief Society, with Mrs. Leah as president, taking charge of preparation and serving. President Randal Schow and the ward group leaders took charge of tran sportation and advertising- Raymond H. Stewart and Linel Larsen were in charge of supplies. Robert. Allred and David Roberts were in charge of serving and the Cedar Valley group also assisted at the tables. Duane Woff inden and Homer Thayn were in charge of removing tables and chairs which were placed under the direction of Clell Jackson and Azer Southwick. Owens Thurman, 54, promJ inent Salt Lake City banker and business man, died at his home last Wednesday, Dec. 2, follow ing a heart attack. He was the son of D. John Thurman, well known Lehi native who served for many years at the Ogden School for the Blind and Deaf, and Zina Owens Thurman. He was married to Thelma Caffall, July 18, 1936, in Salt Lake City. He had recently completed two terms as a member of the American Bankers installment Credit Commission and was prominent in the banking industry for many years. He attended the University of Utah and George Washington University and served with the U.S. Army during World War II, receiving a presidential unit citation. He fulfilled a mission in Germany for the LDS church. He is survived by his widow, his, mother, a daughter and stepson,, one brother and four sisters.
