It is obvious, however, that if the proposal fails, construction would have to stop eventually. This would probably necessitate double sessions in some schools of the district. It would be necessary for the Board of Education to make decisions concerning the district that would probably curtail the present program. Q What is the per foot of floor space for school buildings in the district? A The Board of Education has an excellent record of securing low bids for constructing schools during the last few years. The cost of the most recently built elementary schools varies from $10.70 to $10.85 per square foot. The cost of building the new high schools is just less than $12.50 per foot of floor space. By comparison to other districts and other types of construction these costs are very nominal. Dr. Alma P. Burton, superintendent of the Alpine School district, points out that the approval of the bond issue will not increase the present mill levy for bond indebtedness. He also emphasizes the fact that a large vote in favor of the bond issue would definitely be revealed in a lower interest rate when the bonds are sold. Over a period of several years, this would represent a sizable amount in savings to taxpayers. For this reason, district officials are hoping for a heavy vote next Tuesday.
