Road Shows Outstanding; Second Ward Takes Top Rating Hiehlv Gratified at the fine per formance of the eight MIA road show casts in the annual event last Tuesday, Mrs. Dorothy Bone, stake drama director, reports that six of the troupes were rated as superior. The two rated excellent came within a small margin of points to the superior class. The Second Ward performance was rated first. A fraction of a point brought the First Ward in as, second and the Fifth Ward was "a close third place winner. Fourth, Sixth and Third tied hi point rating for superior. Cedar Valley and Seventh Ward troupes produced some fine entertainment of nearly superior classification. A large number of young people took part in the shows, in some wards the entire MIA enrollment. Effective lighting was. used to a greater extent this year, producing scenic backgrounds without so much heavy scenery. Each show depicted a viewpoint of the general title, "Songs Long-live- d , Indian Love Call A spectular presentation of "The Indian Love Can," brought the Second Ward top rating. Dark lighting, the entire group cast as Indians and the use of flourescent tape outlines produced a harmonious unit. A huge thunderbird was the central stage motif. Drumming was realistic and the song, "Indian Love Call" was sung by Kathryn Dorton and John Jolley, authentically garbed in traditional Indian costumes. Rhea Wanlass was accompanist for the production which was directed by Mrs. Josephine Robison and Joseph Forestier. Preliminary number was a violin and piano selection, "Pale Moon," by Edna Loveridge and Lena Peterson. Four Seasons Seasoned for "'Songs Long-liveYou," by the First Ward, depicted the four seasons, including the harvest moon and Santa Claus. Norene Felt, as a negro field hand, sang an impressive solo. A quartet was composed of Blaine and Melvin Anderson, Rulon Fox and Raymond Stewart. Glayds Peterson was the reader and Clare Ann De Young was the accompanist. Carl Stewart played an accordion preliminary. Dona Anderson was director. This Old House An intriguing depictation of "This Old House," was given by d, the Third Ward, with many events The Other Side of History The Fifth Ward went from smiles to chuckles in showing the "real" scenes of history, complete with Paul Revere's horse. Columbus and the Indians, Priscilla and John Alden, George Washington Crossing the Delaware and the Boston Postum Party were all exposed. Songs used original lyrics. Ina Hunt was the director. Alder sang the preliminary, "The False Prophet," with Zada Phillips as accompanist. Songs of the Gay Nineties The Sixth Ward went all out to prove that the "gay nineties" were really the proper time to live, including the old time bathing and picture hat suits. "Can-can- " choruses and a variety of songs were Included. "You Tell Me Your Dream" was sung as a duet by Elaine Scown and Gaylen Messer-smitwaltzing couple, who announced the scenes from the 6tage, "I'd Give a Million Tomorrows," was a convincing finale. Anne Allen directed and Ila Powell was the accompanist. Piano preliminary was by Linda Smith. Come, Come, Ye Saints Produced as the only religious selection in the. show, the poignant scenes from "Come, Come Ye Saints," were ably portrayed by the Fourth Ward, Sagebrush, pioneer attire and. impressive lighting effects combined in the realistic daramatization. A girls' double duet, Mary Lou Medved, Mary Ann Featherstone, Janice Norberg and Donna Rasmussen, was featured in "For the Strength Of the Hills." The theme song was both read and sung, with the audience joining in the last verse. "The Holy City," violin solo by Lynette Peterson was the prelude. Ferrin Gurney of the Junior High. The parties are scheduled for the period from 11:45 a. m. to 12:30 p.m. A matinee basketball game is scheduled for 1:00 p. m. in the High School Gymnasium, for which both Senior and Junior High School students will be released. Brown left last week for the return to his ship. USS Hazelwood (Destroyer) in Boston, Mass.. after a 30 days furlough here with his mother, Mrs. Viola Brown Whiteheaad. The ship had been damaged by the east coast hurricane and was laid up for repairs. Morris has been in the navy for two years and has crossed the equator and been around the world.
