"S-Day" is sponsored by the President's Action Committee for Traffic Safety, in cooperation with a many national organizations, as D effort, against enemy the traffic nation-wid- e nation-wid- e a ac- cident tolL Mr. Kirkham stated "All over the country, Americans have been proving this year that they can reduce traffic accidents if they accept the personal responsibility to drive and walk as they want others to drive and walk. In each of the first nine months of 1954, fewer people have been killed in traffic in the United States than in the comparable months of 1953." 'S-Day gives all of us the opportunity to demonstrate dramatically that this problem can be conauered. President Eisenhower has asked all Americans to join in this greatest cooperative job ever undertaken in behalf of accident elimination. Governor J. The reason for this restriction is the value of the forest area as a water shed and also as an important recreational area. Stating that over 300,000 visits were made to the canyon last year, Ranger Saling asks the cooperation of the public in preserving the canyon. There are very few suitable trees to be found for the purpose in this particular region, he said, and cutting them would be only a waste of a valuable natural scenic feature. Alpine Loop Ckwed For Winter The Alpine Loon hiehwav Is now closed lor the winter, Ranger Saling stated. Local residents and tourists are reminded that snow and winter conditions prohibit driving through that region at this time. ' The 1954 Census of Agriculture its final stages locally and can be completed within the next two weeks if farmers will fill out is in their questionnaires and have them ready for the enumerator when he calls, according to Field Super visor Mr. Quayle Cannon, Jr. The farm census questionnaires were mailed in advance or me start of the field enumeration for the purpose of giving farm operators time to consult their records and fill out the forms before the enumerators began their rounds. This procedure was planned to insure greater accuracy and to save time for both the farmer and the enumerator. Completion of the farm census on time will not only help in keeping .costs down but will aid in prompt publication of the results. These goals cannot be reached, however, unless farmers assist, the supervisor pointed out, urging local farmers to fill out their questionnaires and have them ready when the enumerator calls. To date, approximately 21.000 farms have been enumerated in the 29 counties under the supervision of the local office. Neighbors and friends of Mrs. Peterson searched through their closets for suitable clothing, much of it in excellent condition. Both Durfey's owned by F. Mrs. Peterson wishes to extend a special thank you to all who assisted in the project which was held in response to a real need in her homeland. The parcels were mailed to acquaintances of Mrs. Peterson and members of LDS church branches, especially those in the Russian zone.
