Show THE LEHI FREE PRESS, LEHI, UTAH 5 mMSm Over 100 Attend Carson Reunion Over 100 members of the descendants of George Carson, early Utah settler, attended the reunion held at Margaret Wines' Park, Sunday afternoon. President Carson Healey was in charge. Family members attended from Idaho as well as various parts of Utah. Mr and Mrs. William (Emma Carson) Loveridge of Idaho Falls, had a family representation of 35 With Mr. and Mrs David H. Carson were 15 family members. Mr. and Mrs. Warren Carson were present from Deseret Mrs. Ether ,(.Lily) Carson and family members came from Provo and Pleasant Grove, and Mrs. C. H. (Leone) Carson and family members also attended from Pleasant Grove. Mrs. Annie Fox and family members attended from Lehi. As speaker of the day, David H. Carson emphasized the work which can be accomplished by family unity. He recalled the coming of the George Carson family to Cottonwood and their settling in Fairfield three years later, in 1854. There were five brothers and two sisters who remained for some years working together and building up an attractive and productive community. Two of the brothers, George and Washington Carson, were killed by Indians Among families associated by marriage are the Egberts, Goddards, Griffiths and Ewings. Descendants have settled in Cache Valley, Idaho and Cali fornia as well as sections of Utah. Stewart of Ogden; Mr. and Mrs John Lewis (Izola) of Orem; Mr. and Mrs. Randal Schow (Vera), Mr. and Mrs. Raymond H. Stewart and Mr. and Mrs. George Carson (Eva). There were also a large percentage of and great her grandchildren grandchildren in attendance. Her brother, Eugene Bone of Garland, sent a message of con gratulation, but did not attend the gathering. Among those coming from a distance were, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Sutton and Mrs. Fred Southerland of Provo; Mr. and Mrs. Eldred Stewart of Wyoming; Mr and Mrs. Victor Mason of Bountiful; Mr. and Mrs. George Mason and Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Stewart and Cordell Stewart of Salt Lake City. Mr. and Mrs. Warren Schow were present from Logan. vice president, was elected presi dent for the coming year. Mrs. Ada Carson Sears was chosen and Mrs. Leonard (Hazel Carson) Laughlan of Salt Lake City will continue as secretary. vice-preside- nt MRS. SHIRLEF POWELL TAKES CANADA TRIP . A return to her former home, Magrath, Canada, was enjoyed by Mrs. Shirlef Powell, who arrived home last week after a two weeks tour. With her went her daughter, miss iia Powell. Renewing ac quaintances with her many friends and relatives there, she was house guest of her sister Pearl, Mrs. Leland Harrison. In Calgary they visited with Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Reece and son, Merlin. Mr. Reece is a brother to Mrs. Pow ell. A trip to Lethbridge and visit to the Cardston IDS Tern pie were among the many things accomplished on the trip. Mr. and Mrs. Will Jacobs were visited as were the Nyal Fletchers, where the Powells greeted Mrs. Matilda Phillips, who is spending the sum' mer with her daughter. Mrs, Fletcher, and family. The return trip was made with Mrs. Armond Sabey and party, who returned after a time spent in Magrath and enjoyable season of activities, the officers of the Serimpian Club met to plan the program for the coming year. The meeting was held at the home of the president. Mrs. Clovis (Carol) Hill, Thurs day evening. Directing the progress of the club this year with Mrs. Hill will be Mrs. Dan (Donna) Evans as vice president: Mrs. Vernon L. (Betty) Blamires, secretary, and Mrs J. B. (Udine) Cooper as program chairman. A varied program is planned for the season, including book reviews travelo gues, lectures and some instruction on child psychology, particular ly fitting for the membership, mostly young mothers. Meetings will begin the latter part of Chevrolet-schoole- dealer, d Ball and children, Shirlene, Bonnie and Leo, motored to Aberdeen, Idaho, where they visited with Mrs. Nettie Phillips, mother of Mrs. Ball, and her brothers and relatives. They attended the Phillips reunion which was held July 27. They also enjoyed visit ing Mackay Dam, Sun Valley, Copper Basin, and the Craters of the Moon. ALICE AUSTIN VISITS IN PORTLAND Mrs Alice Austin returned home last Thursday after an enjoyable visit in Portland, Oregon, where she was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. L. K. Smith and family (her daughter). She remained some threee weeks. Among the highlights of her stay was a trip to the ocean beach, some 100 miles distant They also visited Silver Falls, a very beautiful spot, which has a 7 mile circle tour for walking or horseback riding Mrs. Austin stated that the scenery reminded her of England. Crab fishing on the beach netted a plentiful supply of 14 crabs, greatly enjoyed by Mrs. Austin. Several picnic parks were visited. Electrical equipment including stoves, washing machines, sinks and under ground disposals for garbage, were placed at convenient locations under shelter, she said.
