A large group have attended regularly and are qualified to take the test in Provo under Dr. Charles Hart to receive their certifiates. This completes the "Standard" course, according to Mr. Colledge who expressed the firm conviction that all of those who have finished the course will qualify for certificates. If they will continue on with the 12 weeks' course to follow, he said, they will be eligible for their "Advanced" certificates and will be able to teach other groups. Mr. Colledge trained under Dr. Hart at Brigham Young University in the winter course. The only other qualified instructor in Lehi at the present time is Eldon A. Harding of the high school staff. "I am well pleased with the group," Mr. Colledge said, They have really been cooperative and have shown quick response and aptitude." He explained that besides becoming thoroughly grounded in theory they have used living models as well. He feels that there is no reason why Lehi should not become a very well trained city, with a certified first aid person in every home. Among the fields covered in the nine lessons have been, treatment of shock; fractures; splinting; control of bleeding; poisoning; all types of wounds; how to handle broken backs; how to apply all kinds of bandages and dressings In other words, the group has been taught how to handle the victims of this particular circumstance until the patient can be taken to the physician. They will be prepared to participate in the mock air raid. A real person will be used as a representative patient. Identification of marks and proper treatment will be given, and the patient actually taken to the hospital. This is a phase of preparation which has been successfully carried through in other cities. The local group is slightly ahead of some cities in the neighboring district, Mr. Colledge explained, and compares well with any in the county. Those who have completed the course include, Stanley M. Taylor, in the who serves as program; Rulon Allred, Helen Clark; Darrell Curtis, Mr. and Mrs. Fay Durfee, Wallace Hebert-soJune Holbrook, Mildred Kirkham, Earl Roberts, Mr. and Mrs. Nile Roberts, Dora Stein, Arvil Florence Powell, Stone, Thelma Webb, Mr. and Mrs Clem Turner, LeRoy Chamberlain, Mr. and Mrs Victor Holmstead, Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Morgan. All cities of the county have been instructed by the Utah County Defense Council to check their clocks with Radio Station KSL at 5 p. m. Monday, then to begin their air raid signal promptly at 6 p. m. The signal will be a pulsating blast of the fire siren. This will be followed at 6:10 p. m. by the . . .a straight blast. As soon as the alert is given, ward and block wardens will take their posts. In this test their duty will be primarily to check on how the signal is received. In future mock or actual air raids they will have the Job of patrolling their assigned area to see that all lights are out, check on fires, determine if rescue and first aid squads are needed, and carry out other duties. They will use the Boy Scouts as runners and message carriers. At the sound of the alert, all registered and practical nurses will also be mobilized. Mrs. Mable Jones and Mrs. Merrill Rolfe will report to the hospital, while a registered nurse and all those with practical nursing or home nursing will report to the ward houses.
