During the council meeting, it was reported by water superintendent Richard Gray that a depth of 215 feet had been reached in drilling the city well above the present settling tank, and although a stream of water had been reached at about 190 feet, drilling will proceed to 300 feet before the pipe is pertoratea to test the stream. Rodeo fans thronged Lehi's streets during the presenttaion of the annual miniature parade Wednesday and Thursday nights, and filled the bige rodeo bowl to watch the nation's top cowboys contend for the $3500 purse, swelled considerably by addition of entry fes. Prize winners in the miniature parade will be announced next week, $100 in cash awards to be given for the best floats, in the opinion of the out of town judges. This evening's rodeo parade Is expected to draw a wide attention, with leading riding clubs of the state contending for the $50 cash award for. the best, determined by the judges; and $50 in prizes to be awarded individual riders The individual prizes, on display in the window of Powers Shoe Store on Main Street, are bronzed statues of horses. A special feature in this evening's rodeo show, in addition to the specialty acts of the two previous evenings, is the appearance of the Silver Spurs, ladies .riding club of Murray, who, wearing colorful costumes, will present drllU.--,,.Saturday evening, preceding the rodeo show, .the nationally famous Magna Drum and Bugle Corps will present marching demonstrations on Lehi's streets and the high school campus. PHYLLIS FOX WILL ATTEND CLlLS STATE THIS YEAR Miss Phyllis Fox, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold M. Fox, has been chosen by the Lehi Ameri- can Legion Auxiliary to attend Girls' State, July 11 to 18 at the U S. A. C. in Logan, it is announced by Mrs. John Ernst, Girls' organization president. State is sponsored annually by the state legion auxiliary organization, and girl representatives are chosen from each community to receive instruction in citizen-thi- p and government during the meet . During Girls' State, model governments are set up, the girls voting for governor, mayors, and other civic officials to lead in their activities. Two girls will be selected during the Utah meet to attend Girls' Nation, which will be held in Washington, D. C. A list of girls eligible for se lection to this honor is submitted to the legion auxiliary by the high school principal, and selec tion is then made on the following qualifications: 1. The girls must be a mem ber of the junior class in senior high school. 2. She should possess the quality of leadership foremost, and possess attributes of courage, honesty, and cooperativeness. 3. She 6hould be in the upper third of her class, scholastically. 4. She should be able to take back to her community the interest and sense of responsibility in government which, it is expected, she will gain from Girls' State. Mjij Fox has served as high school piano accompanist for two years, was secretary of the student body last year, had a leading role in the school play, and was a member of the orchestra, band, and pep club. She has also ap peared on numerous community back and saddle bronc riding,' calf roping, bulldogging, and Brahma bull riding, Louis and Bernette Cabrell are featured in fancy trick riding and roping, with a sensational fire leap per formed by Louis, standing astride three horses. Wilbur Plaugher and Gene Clark, rodeo clowns, also contend for prize money In the rodeo events, and Ray Minten and his fife and drum entertain each night The Lehi Riding Club, resplendent in their new uniform shirts and hats, present an outstanding new cavalry drill each evening, led by Don Whimpey, drill captain. Stock for the rodeo events Is furnished by Earl Hutchison, each animal being used for the first time this season in the Lehi show. Among the huge Brahma bulls is Freckles, who manages to raise a considerable commotion among the spectators, and he attempts to hurdle the fence and join the fans. Jack Oakey, champion rodeo announcer, is at the mike each evening to describe the proceedings in his inimitable, interesting manner. Oakey has been termed the best announcer In the rodeo business, always finding a clever remark at the right time when the contests are at their height. Concessions and rides at the school campus are in operation each day of the celebration. The second annual Lehi Flower and Show, held Wednesdy Thursday, drew hundreds of visitors and attracted much attention for the beauty and variety of choice, colorful blooms on display from the gardens of Lehi flower lovers.
