Saturday at 1:30 the Lehi and American Fork firemen answered a call to the home of Eiisha Peck, where a barn, containing approximately seventy ton of hay (according to Mr. Peck) was ablaze. The fire was started when the small boy of Odell Peck started a fire north of the barn. He left this fire, thinking it was out, bui the wind blew the sparks over to a straw stack, starting it ablaze, and then over to the hay. Both the Lehi and the American Fork fire depart ments made quick runs, and used all available equipment Water from a ditch nearby proved Inade quate to keep both departments busy. Volunteers and neighbors assisted. The 75 feet by 50 feet L shaped barn, and the seventy ton of hay were burned. Part of the hay was saved, but it was wet, and "burned until It was practically useless. The firemen, together with volunteers and neighbors saved the cow barn to the west the large barn. They stayed with the fire until four o'clock Sunday morning. During this time, a call was re ceived from the "Noble Evans Dry Farm on the west of the river. The American Fork department, not used, was rushed to the fire. Fences and stockyards. were ablaze. Little damage was done. Still another call came from the southern end of Leh where the wind had caused a salt grass fire to get out of control south of the Rhodes home. Little damage was done. ' The Lehi' fire department answered the call, then returned to the Peck fire, according to Fre Chief Powers. tf be-in- g GRANDSON OF FORMER RESIDENT REPORTED for KILLED Mrs. Jennie Nostrum was inform ed this week that uary Judy, a grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Nephi Otteson of Ogdtn, had been reported killed in action In Germany.
