The Dry Canyon aection of the Ophlr mining district one again la the scene of much mining aa the result of derelopmenta In that area In recent years. Approximately 100 men are finding employment in varloues properties, which were rirtually Idle for two decades prior to 1933. RejsTlnation of the area followed the dUcorery seireraJ years ago by two lessen working In the Hidden Treasure property In the upper end of the dlatrlct The leasers, Lynch and Glenny of Salt Uke City, opened ore In the Madison limestone of the Hidden Treasure and Immediately stimulated a wae of prospecting to sound out the possibilities of this limestone bedding in other sections of the dlatrlct. The United States Smelting Refining and Mining company was attracted by the dlscorery of the leasers and after careful examination, purchased the Hidden Treasure mine from 1U Eastern owners. At the present time approximately 50 men are employed at the property and a fleet of trucks Is being kept busy plying between the district and the rail terminal at Stockton, hauling production from the Hidden Treasure. From Stockton it is shipped by rail to the Mldvale la y plant of the pany. With U. S. In order to reach the Garber property It waa neceaMry to start their work from the Wandering Jew and drive through about 300 feet of the Ophlr Queen mine. In drirlng an Inclined wlnte through the Ophlr Queen, promising new ore showing were encountered, from which several shipments et ore hare already been made. While sufficient work has not been done to determine the Importance of thla development. It has added increased momentum to prospecting In the area. 100 Altogether approximately men are finding employment in the district and Indications are that It Is returning to its former Importance as a contributor to Industry of the state of Utah. While some of the men are living In the district, most of them return to their homes In the valley below and such towns as Stockton, Hauet and Tooele are feeling the stimulus provided by the new developments. as well as the state in general.
