Born April 12 1886, in Lehi, Utah, the daughter of Arthur M. Steward and Sarah Thomas, Mrs. Prestwich Lincoln from that community. She was an officer in the Lincoln L. D. S. Relief Society and Y. W. He was batpized at the age of eight years, and attended school at Lehi completing the courses given at that time. He was ordained to the different offices of the Priesthood as he became old enough. He was active in public affairs as a young man, and was a member of Lehi's first band "The Old Brass Band." Later he joined the first Silver Band. He was a member of Lehi's first baseball team of which only one survives, James M. Anderson of Salt Lake City. blackHe worked in his fathers smith shop and farm where he developed a love for agriculture. He helped break ground for the Lehi sugar factory, and worked as scafold man during its construction. After the mill was finished he worked as oiler in the boiler room, and sewed sacks by hand in the sugar room, working twelve hour shifts. For seven years he worked for the Utah-Idah- o Sugar Co. at Center Creek in Heber Valley and at Idaho Falls and Blackfoot, Idaho.
