Show The Daily Utah Chronicle - Page Six Wednesday, January 15, 1992 President Bush patently unqualified to lead United States January 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9, 1992, equaled Pearl Harbor Day as the most infamous (days in American history. Was it not disgraceful seeing an overtly lacking U.S. president, a year away from retirement, trekking over the Far East, begging Third World nations to accept the United States as an equal trading partner? It was utterly dark indeed. You and I are responsible for this fiasco. We voted that patently unqualified person to lead the greatest nation on Earth. We must lick the pus off our wound for a year before we can dump Bush. Where has this president's wretched managerial style gotten us today, you ask? Here is a list of funky laundry: Bingo. I infuriated more than a few para-patriot- s. Insightful letters to the editor came from boys majoring in and English 101 and Ray Olpin Union 790. University co-eand stars the creases of the stooa in stripes to grandmothers denounce my unpatriotic stance when their lovers and were being mangled by allegorical Iraqi republican guards. One writer even offered that "Bush is the coach of Team America and we are the players." Humility being my nature, I am not even claiming great analytical insight today, although the president, when facing ds sons-in-la- Astronomical trade deficit; J. record-hig- Bel-A- mi h unemployment; record number of de Montreux Americans at registering soup kitchens to Chronicle Columnist avoid African-typ- e starvation; record number of without basic health care; Americans record homelessness. It gets dirtier, folks. The bill for our Kuwait and Iraq machismo is $7 billion and rising the Arabs should be paying, not we the taxpayers. The national debt has reached unquotable highs. Violently racist and prurient rap and heavy metal songs stink the airwaves. Drugs have invaded every American school. Street gangs are some call the later multiplying. Racism and ethnocentrism isolationism are at near 1960s level. Bush's Hortonism has engendered idiots like David Duke and Patrick Buchanan and is This president's legacy spots modern vulgarizing American history. At the apotheosis of Bush's popularity last year, I wrote this prophetic few words: "...for once Bush does not have to eat his political broccoli... .But all this hoopla, all this and all this rock culture style mania amount to no more than the Mother of all misrepresentation." Further discrediting Bush's role in the Middle East, but applauding the prowess of our troops, I added: "After patriotic zeal subsides, after objective autopsy of the Middle East War, we will admit that Bush is simply the luckiest gambler of all time." I also exhorted any party still with a culotte on its embarrassed derriere to attack Bush's absurd domestic performance. (HMHKUlUrTlfchotlSmA neo-Nazis- Bush-canonizi- Bush-superhe- ro functions that must be performed by him and not with American military might, shows unacceptable inadequacies. Now, patriotic zealousness has evaporated. With the dying of the applause, Americans are hearing the growl of their empty bowels. Nine million citizens are out of work and starving. Must they rely forever on the philanthropic heart of the Jon Hunstmans of this world? Their parasitical expectations of divine miracles having failed, they will show common sense next November. Clamorously they chant: "Down with Bush!" On Infamy Week, Bush got Japan to "promise" to buy a few more American cars and parts. To his credit, he got pledges to enhance openness and oppose protectionism in commercial and investment markets. But that is mere talc on an open cancer, especially after General Motors announced it will close 21 plants and cut 74,000 American jobs because of poor sales. Besides, the Japanese have always been open about commercially colonizing America. They own every piece of profitable industry in this country, from the automobile marxet to Hollywood movie studios. They are openly collecting prize real estates. Their flag unfurls big and proud over the American skyline. And Bush asked for openness in financial transactions. Que malo! I thought that with his credibility on the line and respect for his presidency waning, our peripatetic Bush would let the Far East guys have it. Did we not get used to his paroxysm during the Gulf crisis? I would nave shoved the following into the Japanese, Koreans and other parasites abusing American generosity: "You people account for mega billions of dollars in the trade deficit My country is sinking under a recession partly because of this disparity. My people are angry and hungry, and I am about to go down in history as a disgrace. The Japanese alone are responsible for $41 billion in trade deficit Gentlemen, this must be managed today. I am here, pursuant to Article n, Sec. 2 of the U.S. Constitution, to renegotiate or cancel any treaties and trade agreements between us. Close this trade gap or sell your cars and little gadgets to your own people. And incidentally, you can have my broccoli while you are at it" Bush did no such talking! An angry Chrysler chairman Lee Iacocca lashed out in despair however. "The way" to have free trade "is to retaliate against those who do not believe in it," Iacocca screamed. "Without pressure, the Japanese will not move at all." But how come even the witty Chrysler chairman never realized that the Bush who went abroad last week is the same who went fishing and played golf minutes after placing American troops in grave danger in the Middle East last year; that the person who surfaced in Japan is the same who has abandoned his mandate to revive the American economy and lead this country to recovery; that it is the same person who, for three years now, has mimicked the tough rap of illiterate ghetto boxers in pitifully referring to himself in the third person; that it is the same Bush who continues to fuel societal schism because of his racial policies and partisan pro-lif- e stand; that Bush is and irremediably incompetent and must not pathetically, patently be next November. We do not deserve four more years of superhero misrepresentation, Saddam Hussein propaganda, Thousand Points of Light fiction, hyperbolic political slogans and expensive blitzkriegs in the Third World. We need leadership, jobs, food, medical coverage and respect for our constitutional rights. Bush has run the ship ashore. Help wanted. INSTITUTE INFO ii i DON'T LEAVE YOUR REGISTRATION TO CHANCE!
