"If you'd like to help out with anything from the lighting design to just moving the dolly, then we'll put you in touch with the students who need help making their films." It should be noted that many aspects of filmmaking require technical training. "(The Film Front has no intention of teaching 11 ' i ; 7 the technical stuff like camera operations. We really won't be A hp teaching anything," Jonsson said. "But we will be getting students involved in productions and that's one sure way of learning about how films are made." Despite the Film Front's various seminars and the implementation of programs such as a monthly journal of film production at the U., the fifth annual Film Front National Student Film and Video Festival will once again claim most of this year's spotlight. All of this nation's most prominent film schools, like USC, UCLA and NYU, have always entered as well. And the U. always has its entries. So I think that you will get a real good look at what's happening in student film today." Mr Traditionally, the U. has not only il 1 drivers from page six ; approach the speed limit. "This festival provides students with a venue for showing their product and while there are other places to show their films, it's unique in that it's the only festival totally run by students," Wade explained. "There are no producers looking over your shoulder, so there's no one to beat the filmmaker into submission. The student is free to express his unique political and sexual beliefs in his films. Such an environment doesn't exist out in Hollywood, so it's important to provide student filmmakers with exhibition for their films before they get out into the real world." Creating such an uninhibited environment where learning can take place and student filmmakers are free to express their artistic beliefs is what the Film Front is all about. Both Jonsson and Wade were quick to add that if students have a real desire to know more about film, and have a real love for cinema, then they should visit the Film Front office in Room 148 of the Union to find out more. to register for an institute class -bring a friend.
