Oct. 27: A Reception and Dance will follow the old-wor- ld from his life love. The film, based on the hit by Jerry Sterner, is replete with plots. This creates a problem in that none of them are Off-Broadw- resolved. Larry is obviously smitten with Kate. But does Kate enjoy Larry's amorous attentions? Do the two of them their give be a whatever it relationship may chance? What happens to The New England Cable and Wire Company? These questions and more go unanswered in a less than satisfying denouement that leaves the viewer stranded with the same trepidations experienced in the middle of the film. But while the plots does not fulfill, the acting does. Danny DeVito sneers and leers but exposes a soft center. He creates a believable and sympathetic character, not a caricature which would have been much easier. Penelope Ann Miller, who was last seen in Kindergarten Cop, reveals an impressive range, alternately feminine and feisty. And, of course, there is Gregory Peck whose inimitable style reminds us what true acting is all about. When he is not on screen his presence is sorely missed.
