Police said they didn't know if the fans got the talk show host's autograph. Lord Helmet isn't completely destroyed, but rather sent careening off into space. I guess he'll be back in The Boskone Strike Back. Now, I haven't read any of "Doc" Smith's fiction, so I don't know whether Lucas stole from Smith, or the Lensman stole from Star Wars. It really doesn't matter. Star Wars, Dune, Blade Runner and Star Trek all more interesting problem is found in the storyline. When "Doc" Smith published the Lensman series in 1934 he had no idea that subsequent generations of science fiction writers would borrow and huge budget woes that appeals to the creative storyteller as well as the producer in me. You can see why a science fiction epic like Lensman might appeal to me. Not only does Lensman have E. E. "Doc" Smith's classic science fiction storyline, but it boasts of blending the best of computer animation with the more traditional eel animation. Unfortunately, co-pil- ot fare ('course, it standard still ain't Disney). The problem is that there isn't any attempt to blur the distinction between the two styles. When you cut away from one image, the effect feels more like switching TV channels than basic editing. Tadami Watanabe Animation by the New York Institute of Technology, Computer Graphics embellish his ideas. Motion pictures also rework the original Lensman. The similarities between Lensman and Star Wars, Blade Runner, Dune and Star Trek are amazing. Let's see if the plot doesn't sound familiar to you: Kim is a young boy who lives on a peaceful planet until came out in movie form before Lensman did. It is impossible not to compare. Lensman simply doesn't seem original. It is an inferior remake of some classic science fiction films. Lensman opens Friday at Gnema in Your Face. one day a planetary patrol ship "juxtaposing" might carrying military secrets is attacked and shot down by a pursuing Boskone (evil) armada. Before the Boskone can get the secrets back, Kim is chosen by be a better term than "blending" because the computer and eel animation never seem to match; one belongs in a university showcase like (sounds Spaceballs?) before he can take over the galaxy. Along the way, Kim is helped by his giant furry Fuzzkirk, an independent nurse who wears her hair in a bun, a master Lensman who teaches Kim how to use the lens and a small Wolfman Dick Clark on acid figure who has access to Boskone infrastmcture. after-scho- ol Produced by Akihito Ito, Mitsuru Kaneko, Michihiro Tomii and Helmet Lord lot like much more complex than the and characters without incurring TOUR no a lensman; a guardian of the galaxy. There is something about being able to create fantastic new worlds SATCH the a mystic force to become a while the other belongs to Saturday morning cartoons. This isn't to say that the animation isn't good. The computer generated animation is bold and menacing.
