University of Utah Head Coach Lynn Archibald announced the awards. Smith captured the Jack Gardner MVP award as he led the U. in scoring and in rebounding. The junior from Phoenix, Ariz., averaged 14.6 points and pulled down 9.4 rebounds. The rebound figure also led the conference in that category. Connor, a junior from 5, 5-- 9-- 7-- 7. 5, 5-- Boise, Idaho, won the ironman award for most minutes played this past 4-1- 2-- season, while taking home hardware for free Softball throw percentage and assists. The guard played 1,022 minutes last season, had 109 assists and hit 84.6 percent of his charity shots. Junior Watkins "Boo" Singletary, who trans- Jon Hansen ferred to Utah from Butler Community College, was a player whose impact was immediately felt. Singletary won the outstanding newcomer award by averaging 14 points and 7.1 rebounds a 8-- - game. Utah tied with Wyoming for second in the WAC with an 11-- 5 record (19-1- 1 overall) and played in the NTT field, falling to Evansville in the first round. Senior guards Gale Gondrezick and Chris Fulton were awarded the team captains honor, while Fulton was named best defensive player. The most inspirational player, as voted by U. players, went to Gondrezick who struggled through his final U. season with injuries. He suffered from tendinitis in both of his knees. John Clark, who saw spot action but made the most of his time by shooting 65.5 percent from the field, won the field goal percentage award. Jon Hansen, a pre-lamajor on this year's U. team, 32-tea- from page ten Utah State will be looking to avenge a pair of losses to the Lady "Utes" last week. Potter is enjoying a great season both on the mound and at the plate. Last week Potter was Utah's HCAC Player of the Week nominee. She is hitting .294 in conference play and has only surrendered one earned run in HCAC play. Carr is pleased with all of her pitchers. "I'm pleased with the way Cami's come back strong and I think she's dominating the games," Carr said.
