Colorado rode the shoulders of John Skajem, who won both slalom and giant slalom races, to capture its first meet of the season, the NCAA Western Regionals. The Golden Buffaloes finished with 400 points, while Utah was second w ith a 366 total. Defending national champion Wyoming was third with 335 points. pow erhouse Vermont, will be the favorites for the NCAA championships, which are set for March 5-- 8 in Stowe, Vt. Saturday, the Catamounts collected their 10th straight Eastern Regional crown. Colorado, which led 205-20- 4 after Friday's slate of races, added a victory in the women's race Saturday to establish the final results. Utah collected titles in three events. The Ute volleyball club dropped a decision to BYU Saturday by 15-scores of 15-- five-s- et 9, 14-1- 9, 6, 15-1- 7, 15-- 9. Also, the men's nordic team kept its unbeaten string intact with a victories. The 3xl0-kilomet- pair of relay team of er Asmund Driveness, Erik Baumann and Hans Martin Sjulstad won that event with 1 lv a 1:26.54. ' The men's title went to Baumann. The freshman from Oslo, V v """"" Norway had a 44:20. Sjulstad was second with a 45:00. The women's relay team was third with a 50:13. Also for Utah, Jeff Durtschi was second 3x5-kilome- The three squads, along with eastern 3x5-kilome- a two-ru- n time of 2:15.32. Grevy, from Sallanches, France, placed fourth in the slalom with a 1:31.14. ter in the slalom, placing behind Skajem's 1:28.09. Durtschi had a 1:29.20. James Vogcl and Igor Podboj placed second and third, respectively, in the giant slalom. Vogel recorded a 1:55.93 and Podboj finished with a 1:56.30. Jill Robins was third in the women's giant slalom with a 2:15.51 and Kim Csizmazia took fifth in the women's nordic race. Csizmazia had a 36:09. The successful applicant will attend a paid six week summer school in Newport, Rhode Island and earn 13 credits at the University of Utah. All those who enroll in the two year program will earn $100 per month as juniors and seniors. Two year scholarships are available.
