Show Page Seven The Daily Utah Chronicle, Monday, January 20, 1986. Put your mimidls at ease the Guru has returned Editor's Note: So one knotcs tzhcre Sports Guru disappeared to ox er the holidays, and he teas certainly vague about it upon his return late last tceek. He did say something about a stolen Winnebago, the Sorth Dakota State Highway Patrol, and seven rejects from the last tryout camp for the Dallas Coz boy Cheerleaders. VTe didn 't ask for more. Nice to have him back though for both us and you. So drop the master of the Guru the tce're runs back. that all line Write: a Guru, Sports genre 112. 84 of Utah, Union, University 240 all-seein- all-knozvt- ng, all-helpi- gt ng SPORTS GURU I've seen Chicago Bears in commericials for Coke and McDonald's. Everybody is writing, reading and talking about them. They've even got their own music video. What could possibly be next? Glad you asked, because this one's a scoop. As if it weren't bad enough that the Bears were doing the Super Bottl Shuffle long before they even qualified for the game itself, they've got a promotion coming up now that borders on the untastcfuL Seems Jim McMahon, who jabbed himself in the eye with a fork when he was a child, is going to be trumpeting the benefits of a new line of silverware. Do you see, uh, what I mean? That's really sickening. Ugh. How come SPORTSCAN- -- ...the Ute hockey club dropped a pair of games this weekend to the University of Arizona Icecats at the Cottonwood Heights Arena. Friday night the Utes lost while Saturday's game ended with a score of 3, once 1, again in favor of the Icecats. Students tickets will be $12.50 with a valid U. ID card. everybody likes the Bears so much, anyway? I think this is very odd, and to tell the truth I'm at a toss to explain it. Bears fans will be the first to tell you that their team is such a perennial underdog, and for years has been so devoid of the attention that has marked other NFL wonders, like the Cowboys, Steelers and 49ers. But the Bears this year have been one of the most overblown teams since the, well, since the Chicago Cubs of 1984. Are they overrated as well? We'll see next Sunday, I suppose. over-hype- d, Who ended up winning, anyway, in the "race not to buy the Diet Pepsi for the other one Joe Montana or Dan Marino? Joe and Dan had that little dispute in the tunnel after the. Super Bowl last season, but in the year since have gotten it all figured out. Dan and Joe are going to buy a whole of Diet Pepsi to share and then sit down Jan. 26 and watch McMahon and Tony Eason on TV. That's one way to settle a bet, I guess. All the lonely people. Where do they all come six-pa- ck from? More importantly, where do they all belong? Pace Mannion has been playing well lately for the Utah Jazz. Aren't you cmbarasscd you once predicted he'd be off the team? U. and New Mexico. Friday afternoon Utah had a dual meet in the Ute Natatorium with one of those top three as New Mexico came to town. And while the Lobos may boast one of the best teams in the conference and one which should challenge for the title, this day belonged to the Utes, as they won decisively by the score of 74.5-38.- 5. Then on Saturday the Utes once again swam to a victoryonly this time it commanding foe New Mexico State, ce A was over Utah's 94-1- 9. No, but I do think he's overweight. If you're so good at predicting things, why don't you take part in the CAronire 'xsports contests, "Pigskin Picks for Pizza at The Pie," and "Slamdunk Selections for Sundaes at Steve's? Because I don't like pizza and I don't like ice cream. Afer all of this, what's the matter with John McEnroe? He's just not the same. Ah, my friend. You've certainly got a lot to learn about life. McEnroe's found there's more to it than beating Borg and Ivan. Why, he's got Tatum and a little Mac on the way and everything's just peachy.
