A communications major, Wright said one day she could see herself broadcasting sports on TV. "What I'd really like is to be on ESPN; that's what I really want. There's a couple of ladies on there that report the sports and that's what I really like," she said. But all of that would fall secondly, she said, to playing basketball beyond the U. into the pro ranks for Wright, where she would be doing nothing more than she has been doing all of her life, and enjoying herself while doing it. "I want to play professional basketball," she said. "I would love to do that. I would love to be able to play pro ball, because," and Wright pauses, just like she does before taking that jumper of hers, "I just love it." They say, 'I didn't want to come, but afterward they say they're glad they came. I found myself in a similar predicament as I entered the Special Events Center on Saturday night to attend my very first gymnastics meet. Making my way to the press area set up for the meet, the first thing I noticed was the ot Ronald McDonald sitting in some of the best seats in the house. But apparently someone from a nearby service station came to the rescue, and pretty soon Ronnie was back and feeling in the pink at a normal 98.6 p.s.i. Over the next few hours I, along with many of the 7,404 others in attendance, came to an appreciation of the sport. And that wasn't even their best stuff out there. Because it was Utah's first meet of the season, the gymnasts didn't use their best routines. So, if you're one of those people who has put off going to a Ute gymnastics meet because you're waiting for the Vidal Sassoon Looking Good Tour with the Olympians, you're making a big mistake. Not to discourage anyone from attending that Feb. 4 meet, but the Ute gymnasts have just as much to offer and it won't cost students S 10. So if you haven't got a boxing match or a greyhound race to go to on Friday night, head on up to the SEC around 7:30 and check out the best collegiate gymnasts in the country. It certainly is worth the time, even if they don't use a ball. And it just might help you forget old Mary Lou Whatshername.
