The following year he returned to the United States and became a lecturer at the University of California. In 1931 Eyring was apMintcd research associate at Princeton I'niversity and hecame assoc iate professor in 193( and professor of c hemistry in 1938. Eyring received one of his greatest honors at the I'niversity in Decern her 1980 when the chemistry building, completed in 1978. was named in his honor. A sjx'aker at the building dedication. Elder Neal Maxwell, said Eyring's "genius allowed him to take his work seriously. Vet. he was Mill able not to take himself loo seriously." Eyring received honorary doctorate degrees from 15 universities inc luding Princeton, the I'liiversity of Arizona and the I'niversity. He also received the first honorary doctorate given to a foreign sc holar by the Seoul. Korea National University in 196.1. Evring was a contributor to the 5th edition of the Encyclopedia Britannica for "Principles of Chemical Kinetics." Aside from his academic achievments. Eyring was buried Dec. 30 and the family 50-ya- rd suggests contributions to the American Cancer Societv.
