The permits range from special ones for the governor and Institutional Council to a general permit for students and frequent by renewed quarterly to "insure members are still enrolled or working at the University." There is an "A" permit for University e staff. Bearers of this faculty and "A" or "U" lot. in permit may park of Parking director D. John Wright, Services, explained that because faculty and staff are always on campus, more convenient parking is necessary for them to carry on their business. However, they pay twice as much for the convenience. Employees of the University Medical Center receive permits marked "MA." Wright noted that this is purely a visitors. full-tim- The "U" permit is the most common permit issued to students. It is valid in all areas marked "U". and some "A" after 3 p.m. Staff and students who live in halls purchase "S" permits with their designated hall punched out on the permit. This enables students to park at the all and in "U" areas. Staff members may park at the hall and in "A" or "U" areas. Carpoolers receive a distinct advantage in their parking privileges. After 3 p.m., you may see permits marked "AE" and "UE." These are for persons teaching or attending school after 3 p.m. "AE" denotes faculty, and owners of this permit may park in "A" or "U" lots between 3 p.m. and 7 a.m. Students are issued "UE" granting parking privileges in "U" lots from 3 p.m. to 7 a.m. also. Some students, faculty members and staff prefer to purchase their permits quarterly. This type of permit is designated by "A 1". "U 3." etc. ("A" for faculty and staff, "U" for students). These permits carry identical privileges as yearly permits for holders, except for renewal dates. "T" indicates a transfer permit, which enables students, faculty and staff who may drive more than one car at different times to transfer their parking privileges from one automobile to the other. John Wright said "SFH" permits are for parking in student family housing areas. He remarked that they are issued by the housing office and are not substitutes for "A" or "U" permits. Five special permits are "X", "R", "K", "H", and "PC". "X" is a special permit given to the Institutional Council, Board of Regents and the governor. Possessors of this permit may park in any "A" or "U" area. University President David Gardner does not receive an "X" permit. He purchases his own "R" permit. The "R" permit is sold to faculty and full time staff members desiring the convenience of a guaranteed permanant parking space. This costs $250 per year. "R" holders choose the stall they want, and parking services patrol persons keep it open for them. As John Wright stated, "R" stalls have "an automatic tow feature." They may also park in "A" or "U." "Doctors at University Hospital buy 'R' permits, as they don't have access to a special lot." said Wright. There are 95 "R" spaces on campus. Kennecott Research Center employees may have a "K" permit. This enables them to park at the research center or in Merrill Engineering lots. Their work requires them to be on campus daily, thus necessitating this privilege. The "K" permit is not valid elsewhere. Handicapped persons are issued an "H" permit with certification of disability from a physician. These stalls are enforced 24 hours daily. Members of the President's Club, donors of $1000 or more a year to the University, are given a complimentary "PC" permit of recognition. They may park in "A" or "U" areas. The hardest time to find parking is Monday and Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. Wright advised people to get to school early on these days, and they will have no trouble locating a stall. "If- - people would just read their parking handbook, they would not have any trouble with citations or parking," commented Wright. "Sometimes we even find these handbooks on the ground outside of the parking services building. It is the goal of Parking Services to provide adequate parking spaces, and to accomplish this goal, a strict enforcement policy is necessary for the recognition and protection of those persons willing to observe the parking rules of the University," declared Wright. my friend People and School are important That's why we're in the Halls don't want to listen, keep paying the price to be seen as Place "cool" in Your If you lot locations 3909 So.
