Show 1978 The Daily Utah Chronicle, Tuesday. September 26, Page Twelve if v :T I Outstanding Ute gridders honored , Steve Folsom was chosen outstanding offensive player and Vincent Brock named outstanding defensive player game. Salt Lake following last Saturday's ChevTolet dealers contributed $ 1 ,000 in each of their names to the University athletic scholarship fund. Free safety Brock led both teams with 14 tackles, II unassisted, and also recovered two fumbles for the Utes. Tight end Folsom took four passes from Ute quarterback Randy Gomez for a total of 60 yards, including a touchdown play in the fourth quarter. "Folsom had five or six great plays," said offensive coordinator Ron McBride, explaining the selections. "He caught a pattern in the middle on a third and long situation. He took one hell of a shot but he held onto the ball," McBride said. The play was an important element in a Ute touchdown drive, McBride said, adding that Folsom's blocking was excellent. "Brock ran his keys really well, played the option well and made a couple of key pass deflections," McBride said. Norm Sheya, executive director of the program, said the players are chosen by Salt Lake Chevrolet dealers and the coaches. "Wayne Howard and his assistants watch the game movies and recommend the best players," Sheya said.
