And man's best friend, even though the computer is it remains convinced that the easiest way to keep track of people is by assigning them numbers. If incoming money is the vital oxygen supply in a bureaucratic system like our Alma Mater, paperwork is the blood carrying that indispensable green oxygen to every part of that system. Any part that goes without this substance first shrivels and then dies. Besides redistributing the wealth from taxpayers and students to faculty, staff and the like, paper works to serve other useful ends at the University; and no new student will long remain a stranger to a large number of these. Printed materials admit and register students, describe and explain university policies and generally inform and enlighten us all as we gingerly pick our way through the University maze. Printed forms are somewhat like a separate, species swimming in the University ecosystem: they tend to multiply and bring forth more of their own kind.
