He had just been defeated .for Academic Affairs Board Chairman by his party, by the people he had got in. How could this happen? Even Shakespeare would have rejected as too unlikely a plot that had the triumphant prince's silver spoon turn so quickly to ashes in his mouth. The answer may suprise those who don't think ASUU is the "real" thing, because ASUU politics are a match for any Byzantine court when it comes to Machiavellian political wheeling and dealing. s movement star of the dump-BenneThe is former Business Student Government president Frank Bennett. Frank Bennett then switched sides and supported Calder, but vetoed his vice presidential candidate, Mark Johnston, and got Rob "Rockefeller" Hemingway on the ticket. With Doug Bennett's support, combined with the traditional conservative LDSSA elements and Frank Bennett's Business support, the Progressive ticket was unbeatable. So who's in charge over there? Why can't Calder get his boy on the cabinet? (A board chairman appointment has never before been defeated). Why can't Calder count on the vote of his own vice president? Frank Bennett got his man elected vice president. Frank Bennett got his men in the Assembly. Editor: With reference to Mr. Bin Hakim's letter, I found its entire contents a hoot from the word "Editor." I enjoyed his joke about a PLO financed "well " 1 1 is campaiga propaganda funny how people of Mr. Hakim's mentality think that anyone who can argue the other side of an issue has to be paid to do so. How does Mr. Hakim explain the finance behind the brainwashing of the American masses through, asone small example, a book and an epic motion picture called Exodus? Mr. Hakim's letter is yet another specimen of traditional Zionist misinf- ormation. Tears of laughter rolled down my eyes as I read Mr. Hakim's account of how Jews were downtrodden in Arab countries and forced to wear special identifying clothing (by the way, just who are the American who force the poor New York Jews to wear their ROUS TH5 r ra candidate. It makes good political sense for Utah voters to make their voices heard. An uncommitted vote means that somebody else will ultimately make the decision for you. Readers Right funny little caps?) As recently as this week, the police of this democratic state beat and kicked American journalists and confiscated their equipment (shades of Chairman Mao.). If the Palestinians in Israel were treated as well as Jews have been treated in the Arab countries, there would be no Palestinian problem. Mr. Hakim, your facts are as phoney as your name. BadaweKhader Slap in the face Editor: As the University Native American Affairs Advisor and as a Northern Ute, I must strongly protest the sun tan oil ad you ran in the Chronicle on May 5. I know the name of the University is the Utah Utes; but being a traditional Indian person, I am very proud of my culture and heritage. To have the name of my people used in such a way and then to have the product give you a "savage tan" seems to be a slap in the face to the Native American Indian people who are portrayed as savages in your history books. We have a difficult time as it is trying to get our young people to be proud of their culture and heritage. To have an ad say "go wild" and get a savage tan, then to end the ad-"- The natives will get very restless" all seems to reflect California on the negative aspects of the relationship there is between the Indians and We have done much that is positive, and we don't need the negative anymore.
