Show zm-- Wimmf Home and Farm News i mi i vinu Tremonton. Utah The Leader AROUND THE COUNTY OPPORTUNITY IN CANADA I was very happy to see Mack Hansen back in town today. He has been to Canada at Vanderhoof to put up some wild lwy on a ranch he purchased in that area. Mack is quite enthusiastic about the opportunities for young men in the farming business in Canada. He stated that this year there was a drought in that area, and the crops were not too good. He said tl e day he left to come home, there were two big bull moose standing in his hay field. MATHEMATICIAN AND ASTRONOMER TURNS FARMER I visited with Bert Smith today, he is now farming " at Yost. Bert came here as a Thiokol engineer. When Thiokol JESSIE ELLER It s Fair Time! was called Box Elder Cou on to send judf ;s to help with judging Cache County and Mordivision of the gan County fair. Morgan County womens division was also judged by Box Elder County judges. Those who took time from a busy schedule to do this service was Zenna White, Louise Hess, Sally Munns and Shirley Rose of Garland, Kathleen and Ale-th- a LaRee Allen, Karnely, Gloria Fukui and Celia Bennett and Arvilla from Tremonton, Stark of Bothwell. Other judges e came from Brigham City, and Bear River City. iy Cor-inn- 4-- The Junior and Senior Style demonstrations dress revue, and public speaking contests laid a big share off of their employees, Bert liked the country and wanted to stay. He purchased his farm at Yost. Bert had no prior farming experience. He is a graduate from San Diego College, California in mathmatics and astronomy. He says it is rough going on his farm but he is going to make it pay regardless. will be held on Wednesday at the McKinley School. These army worms are moving out of the alfalfa fields when it is cut into the beet fields, tomato fields, corn fields and stripping these crops of their leaves. These army worms may be controlled if a harrier of DDT, Dieldrin or Toxyphene is placed at the edge of the field they are moving out of, providing it can be placed on wasteland or grain stubble or anything that livestock or humans do not eat. For control in the fields after the worms have invaded the field, Malathion, Parathion, or Dylox works quite well. EARWIG CONTROL We are witnessing the worst infestation of earwigs that has been in this area for a long time. Many homes, yards and fields are being invaded by this insect. Control measures are on flowers, lawns, wasteland or any area where the produce is not consumed by humans or animals. We can use Chlor-danAldrin, Heptachlor, DDT, Dieldrin and Methorychlcc.. The spray should be applied liberally and over a ldrge area to rid the premises of this insect. If possible, consider a neighborhood control project as these insects move from one area to another very rapidly.
