Show Thursday, June ! EDITOR Dear Sir: A recent article which appeared in the columns of your newspaper, by Dallis J. Pierson - a Utah State University student of public health - is so flagrant with speculations and errors in statistics and facts concerning fluoridation of the public's water supply, that they need no formal confrontations or corrections. Any adult knows what fluor- - fellowman. It could well be that after the addition of fluorides to our drinking water, other pundits of public health could advocate serums for other health problems of youth, middle-age, or the elderly. Everyone knows that sometimes a sick or senseless creature, stirred by emotion that is so much a part of human nature and convinced his cause is right, wields a knife or pulls a trigger. Most of our citizens who are mentally well and normally sensible, despite any emotional impact upon them under stress, are going to retain the power of reason and practice restraint. But when you put a community under high emotional tension for many days and talk about force and revolution, there are likely to be some casualties, human nature being what it is. We have seen this happen in New York as well as Alabama. Causes, they say, need martyrs. How foolish and costly, that Jim Reeb and Mrs. Liuzzo, or anyone at all, should have been offered so sacrifically on the propaganda altar. Yet, when no word of restraint came from the White House, when money, pressure, politics, and vindictiveness said "march," it was an invitation to martyrdom for somebody. Was it worth it? Well, if one is convinced that the only practical route (an extremist's view, doubtless) to important reforms, to persuasion of the people, and i: to democratic forc of the use the through of "mobocracy," yes. The Other Side of It Not many Americans sub scribe to such a view, we hope. The Party is working groups through and front organizations to embarrass our Government and disrupt its efforts. Communist leaders are striving to initiate other marches and demonstrations to keep their campaign of fear and terror rolling. We can expect that the Party will push for some type of nationwide action similar to "p e a c e" strikes or work stoppages to emphasize their aims. These are methods which have served communist causes so well since the days of Lenin. Party leaders hope, of course, that more and more Americans will be duped and misled by these tactics. They envision a commanding wave of hostility American policies against abroad.
