Sunday his parents. Mr. and Dear Mr. Editor: There has been a bill introduced in the Utah House of Representatives and known as HB 87 which I believe should be of interest to everyone in the State of Utah regarding taxes. property Especially should it be of interest to the older people, the widows and widowers and those who have a very small income and are hard to make ends trying meet. This bill provides for a tax abatement on your property in the amount of $20.00, with the approval of the County Commissioners. At the present time there is an allowance in the same way but for only $10.00. I believe this is the right step in increasing the amount, but I also believe this should actually be a larger increase. The original law set up on the books many, many years ago provided $10.00 when that amount was worth considerably more than $20.00 is at today's prices. These people who need this abatement of taxes certainly have been hit hard by cost of living increases and increased taxes. They have a small pension or social security check on which to live and along comes an increase in what they must buy and also higher taxes ' on their homes, which homes produce no income for them. Their pension or social security check It is my suggestion that all the people who are interested, and we all should be, in this bill for the older people, arfd especthemially the older people to your State selves, write Senator from Box Elder CounDavid R. Waldron, ty, Mr. State Senate, Capitol Building, Salt Lake City, and to your Box Elder County Representatives, Mr. Donald B. Green and Mr. Miles Ferry, House of Representatives, Capitol Building, Salt Lake City, and ask that they put in all their effort toward passage of House Bill No. 87, the bill to increase the allowed abatement on property taxes from $10.00 to $20.00, or more than that if you feel that it should be more. Let these lawmakers know your feelings in the matter and they will surely sit up and take notice and feel very grateful that you take the time to let them know how you feel. I suggested to tht Originnally, Utah State Association of County Officials last summer that a bill be introduced to make the increase to $25.00 or $30.00, which I believe would not be out of line at the present rate of taxation over the past years. I suggest you sit down right now and write to the lawmakers. sev-era- hasn't increased certainly ; as fast as the taxes over the past years to say nothing of other increased prices. L Most hopefully.
