The flurry and excitement of opening Christmas gifts is over and now everyone is looking forward eagerly to New Year's Eve, parties and dances. One of the nice things about parties is the homemade candy most hostesses always have available. Today we feature Mrs. Orvin (Esta Jones) Pierson who shares some of her favorite candy recipes. Esta is well known for her homemade candy. She is the teacher on demonstrating candy making at mini classes in Relief Society on a stake level. Esta is a native of Fielding. She graduated from Bear River High School and LDS Seminary. She spent a year attending Henegar's Business College in Salt Lake City. She and Orvin are parents of two sons and one daughter Randall is attending Utah State University in Logan and planning an LDS mission soon. Esta is employed by Dr. George C. Ficklin in Tremonton three days each week. She has been active in most church organizations. Presently she is teaching the Beehive girls. "I sing with the Community Choir and I am also a member of the Ladies Sextette," she said. "We are asked to sing at ward entertainments, funerals and conventions often." Esta is also president of the Future Progress Guild. Her special hobbies are sewing and cooking. She makes many of her Christmas gifts which include Raggedy Ann dolls which are adorable! "I love to bake," she told me. "I enjoy making our own homemade bread. I also make pies, cookies and cakes from scratch, -- 1 prefer making my own instead of using mixes. I am especially fond of Chinese food. We have a vegetable garden each year and I do lots of canning. We also raise our own chickens." About seven years ago the Piersons bought an older home in the heart of Fielding and have really had fun remodeling it to their own personal taste. And the best part, they have had it as a family project and done most of the work themselves. Esta has very good taste and is an immaculate housekeeper. Talking with Esta about recipes is like drinking from collects recipes and loves a never-endin- g fountain,-s- he to share them with others. In addition to her candy recipes, she shares with Leader readers today a very favorite Date Cookie recipe. "Everyone who samples my cookies, made with dates, asks for the recipe," she said, smiling. 1 reaches stage smile' K'-- o v.a7 a" V 4 Aim tastes better 6.4 oz. longer. so Reg. and safe. Reg.
