Frank and Melva were married 23 years ago in the Los Angeles LDS Temple and have a daughter Debbie, nearly 22, who was named after childhood friend and neighbor of Mrs. Keller, actress Debbie Reynolds. 24. 1977 in 3' with a WHILE HOSPITALIZED deadly virus nearly three years ago, Mrs. Keller realized she could no longer operate a day care program for and prayed for guidance into a new profession that permitted the much needed rest required during the long period of recuperation. Many thoughts and ideas passed through the and one idea was haze of a semi-comrejected as utterly insane.. ..but it kept a surfacing! You Asked For Them Now We Have Them ! During the two and one half years spent regaining health and strength, Mrs. Keller was encouraged to give the unconventional idea a try, by daughter Debbie Jean, "for the fun of it" she suggested, and for something to do during the months of recuperation. Using a scope and through trial and error, Debbie finally succeeded in painting a scene on the surface of a thumb tack after managing to apply more paint to the scope lens than to the tack! From these primitive beginnings, Debbie and Mrs. Keller graduated to painting pictures on tiny pebbles, pinheads, mustard seeds and finally the ultimate....they mastered the seemingly impossible. A seascape painted on a grain of sand! MRS. KELLEK has been a talented artist all of her life. A wedding gown she designed for the Jane Arden paper doll, when only eleven years old and in the sixth grade, was published in Sunday papers throughout the united States and she received "fan mail" from readers all over the country. She still designs children's clothing and costumes. ott center leaving the sea life exposed for the enjoyment of the viewers. Landscape paintings sell for $1500 to $2000 each, that are done on pinheads. A collection of 45 pinhead paintings showing historical scenes and caricatures of former presidents is valued at a quarter of a million dollars in Los Angeles. Th. private sctuols Debbie attended art her artistic talents lie dormant until their in Southern California didn't offer or music in their curriculum and move to Morro Bay. She has since won numerous art awards and scholar- Paul POPU..VK Harvey gave nationwide coverage of the Keller's seascapes on his ABC radio program from Chicago. He referred to them as "Mini Masterpieces" and they are being marketed under that name. Ripley's Believe It Or Not asked for a story for their world wide publications and a painting for display in the Miniature Gallery of the three Ripley museums. The Guinness Book of World Records in London, England requested an account of this impossible feat as well as writers of the Numer One seller in America, Book of Lists. The paintings are completed using a powerful microscope and the Keller's make their own brushes. Mrs. Keller said that creating a scene on a grain of sand was almost as exciting as being named "California Mother of the Year" a few years ago. She noted also that the abstinance of tobacco and alcohol aids in a steady hand and eye and watched a fellow artist attempt a landscape on a pinhead after two cups of coffee and a cigarette. The man was unable to touch the pin with the brush because of severe shaking. Mrs. Keller says that their paintings are a "rich man's toy." Debbie hasn't as much time to devote to mini painting as she completes her senior year at the university and makes frequent appearances as the current "Miss too Beauty." Frank is employed in Morro Bay and carries his childhood training on the farm to his hillside property overlooking the picturesque central California coast. He enjoys growing a variety of vegetables and fruits. His greatest talent lies in keeping close score of all local and national ballgames on television, while Melva is planning a series of pinhead paintings depicting The Mormon Story to be donated to museums. THE KELLER'S have made clothing, stuffed animals, bean bags, dolls and toys of all kinds annually, and with the help of many friends, surpassed their goal of 15 years when over 2,000 items were distributed to needy children, orphanages and hospitals in three states and Mexico. They received the Good Neighbor Award, a sweet note from Amy Carter and autographed picture from her father, President Jimmy Carter. A prized necklace of shaved pods from grateful Indian children in Arizona is worn frequently by Mrs. Keller. The Keller family has many friends and relatives residing in and around IT WAS NOTED in early attempts that many grains of sand rejected the flowing oil paints. The medium would literally cake on the brush and become clay like when being introduced to the grain. It was as though the sand threw off an energy of sorts. A geologist friend enlightened them with the fact that the porous grains emitted an electricity that prevented the paint from flowing normally. He suggested grains . of an array of hues from Moonstone and collectors items have been gathered at Montana de Oro where tiny sea life have been discovered encased in clear smooth amber particles. Paintings have been created Preston. Frank's parents Janeus and Vera Keller and his grandparents were pioneers of this community.
