They were accompanied part of the way by Mr. and Mrs. Reed Morrill of Provo, Utah. The Bunnells and Morrills worked together in Iran. The Bunnells in their camper and the Morrills in their motorhome, traveled via Las Vegas, San Diego, and into Baja through Tijuana. They followed the west coast of Baja South enjoying the ocean scenery. They found the roads to be black top all the way with adequate gas stations along the way. Trailer courts were plentiful and surprisingly good, most with full hookups, and drinkable water. The Mexican Government has built beautiful hotels within an easy day's drive of each other all along the highway from Ensenada to the tip at Cago San Lucas, to encourage tourists with passenger cars. The two couples at enjoyed several days Scammon Bay, Guerroero Negro, watching the gray whale and the porpoise. Then they crossed over to the East coast of Baja through the forests of the "Boojum" tree, a strange variety of cactus, to Santa Rosalia, and down the east coast stopping at sandy beaches, taking time to dig for clams, buy frozen shrimp from the shrimp boats, and watching the many types of fish birds as they wheeled and dived for the small fish in the ocean. Returning to Santo Rosalia, they put their outfits on the ferry and crossed to the port of Guaymas in Old Mexico. Here the couples parted as the Morrills had to return to the States but the Bunnells drove south to Los Mochis and took the spectacular train ride to Creel through Copper Canyon. They stayed at the Copper Canyon Lodge in the canyon at Creel where beautiful native Indian girls kindled the fire in the monkey stove in the room, and trimmed the kerosene lamps used for lighting. While there they visited an Indian village with its nearly 400 year old church whose walls were lined with large oil paintings depicting the events in the life of Christ; Then they spent time at Alamos, an abandoned mining town that has been recently restored to its former Spanish beauty by Americans who have bought the homes. Time was also spent on a beach at San Carlos, and then they drove to Kino ,Bay for ten days before returning to the States, stopping at Mesa, Arizona to visit Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Miller of Tremonton and many other people from this area. They also visited Mr. and Mrs. Doug Gunderson and Mr. and Mrs. Freeman Byington of Brigham City.
