Show THE Good Cooks Corner She's Home Mrs. Bernice Allen, wife of Lee Allen of East Garland, finds herself at home even when she goes to the office. When she heads to work as secretary for her husband at Allen Realty she the in the Boise Cascade spends day home he set up in Tremonton to house his office. Then in the evening she returns to her own home in East Garland. "I'm probably not as good as if he hired a regular secretary but I can answer the phone," she claimed. Inspite of the comf6rtable office surrthe comforts of home-sh- e oundings-all wouldn't want to live there. "It's nice to have a different home to go home to. I'd hate to think I had to stay here after work." Sometimes her roles as mother and working woman overlap so she brings her bread to the office to bake it. The Aliens still have three of their six children living at home and have taken on a seventh addition- -a young Navajo placement student. Their oldest son, Bobby is married and lives in Boise. A second son is married to DeAnna Hales, formerly of Riverside. And a daughter, Lani Jane, is married to Roger Callister. They live in Logan and both go to Utah State. At home still are Suzanne, a senior at Bear River; Pauline a ninth grader; Andrew a fifth grader; and Samuel Herrera, their foster son, a fourth grader. The Allen's have moved around. They spent their time on a ranch in Montana from 1964 to 1968 near the Big Hole river. "It was beautiful country," Mrs. Allen said wistfully. "If we could have just drug our ranch down here... you don't find ranches like that around here." She said ranches in Montana aren't described by the acre but how many cattle they'll support. From the ranch, the family moved back to Utah to enter the realtor business. They lived in Collinston for three years and then moved to Garland. "I don't cook like I used to," she confessed. "I used to cook three big meals a day, but when you work you just don't get that done." Baking is her specialty. "I'd rather .bake than anything." ' , Although he's hungry for rabbit, Samuel, their foster son, "almost found-eres- " on her chicken. Besides cooking, Mrs. Allen still finds time for a myriad of church duties serving as stake primary president. "I have really enjoyed this. It's been a lot of fun," she said. Registration is underway for upholstery and ceramics classes scheduled to begin shortly at the Bear River Valley Senior Center. Persons interested in enrolling in the upholstery class which begins in the next few days or the ceramics class which begins Feb. 17 should come into the center or call to register. Center Director LaRene Napoli said there are still some openings in a Spanish class being offered at the center. Meanwhile put in large bowl: one third c. sugar, ',4 c. , butter, and a teas. salt. Immediately pour scalded milk over the ingredients in bowl. When lukewarm, blend in, beating until smooth : 1 cup sifted flour, add yeast and mix well. Measure 2 lz to 3 cups flour, of the flour and beat until add about smooth. Add 2 eggs, well beaten. Add enough more flour to make a soft dough. Let rest 5 to 10 minutes. Knead for 5 minutes. Let rise until doubled in bulk. Roll out and cut doughnuts. Let rise and cook in hot fat. Delicious either sugared or glazed. GINGER SNAPS 1 :,,4 cup shortening, cup white sugar, 1 tsp. cinnamon, 1 tsp. ginger, 1 egg, 2 tbsp. corn syrup, 2 tbsp. molasses, 2 tsp. soda, and 2 cups flour. Cream shortening and sugar, add egg, corn syrup and molasses. Mix sifted dry ingredients. Roll in small balls and roll in granulated sugar. Place 1 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees until light brown and fluffy (about 10 minutes). Makes about 5. dozen. CHICKEN CRUNCH 1 can cream of mushroom soup, U cup milk, 1 tbsp. finely chopped onion, 1 tbsp. chopped parsley, 2 lbs. chicken parts, 1 cup finely crushed bread crumbs, and 2 tbsp. melted butter. Mix one third c soup, '4 c milk, onion and parsley. Dip chicken in soup mixture; then roll in bread crumbs. Place in shallow baking dish. Drizzle butter on chicken. Bake at 400 degrees for 1 hour. Meanwhile, combine remaining soup and milk and heat. Stir now and then. Serve over chicken. 4 to 6 servings.
