Show Page 2, The Leader-T- he Garland Times, October 18, 1973 The On Friday of last week Mr. and Mrs. Reid Giles and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Bolton left to drive to Bend, Oregon. They visited there until Monday with Mr. and Mrs. Glen Mitchell and fem-'ly- . Mrs. Mitchell is the former Lois Giles and is a sis- ter of Reid and Helen Bolton. Mrs. Lilliam Mason has had a most welcome visit with her Mrs. Larry (Golda) sister. Strohl came from her home in Glendale, California and spent a week with Lil. They especially enjoyed their visit because they have not had many such times together for quite some Mrs. Strohl came to time. Tremonton with Mr. and Mrs. Murl Keller of Arcadia, California. While the Keller's have been here they have spent time visiting with Mrs. Mason and also with other relatives in The visitors have the area. been able to get together with other brothers and sisters and have had a good time getting reacquainted. The Kellers and BY with Maj. and Mrs. Warren Hickman in Rhode Island. They saw much of the beauties of the area in that part of the country and were impressed the Cape Cod scenery. They enjoyed their visit there and returned to Tremonton on October 12th. with Mr. and Mrs. Garland Puzey left last Friday afternoon for Reno. They visited with Mr. and Mrs. William Puzey and their children, Jim, Christine and Laura Ann. It was a long drive to see a Little League football gams but it was worth it because the Astros won and their grandson, Jim plays on The Puzey's rethat team. turned home Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Merwin Christ-ens- en have returned from a two week trip to Oakridge, Tennessee where they went to visit with Dr. and Mrs. Holden Brink Anderson's to Germany was their other daughter, Marilyn Hickman. She is the wife of Maj. Warren Hickman and they make their home in Middletown, Rhode Island. While the local visitors were in Germany they toured in the area and saw some beautiful, parts of the German Country. They were also very happy to be able to spend time with their daughter and After returning to the United States, Mr. and Mrs. Anderson visited for a week son-in-la- J' ' Mrs. Phyllis Stayner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Woodruff, has been spending a few days at the home of her parents. She came from her home in Malad to be here. She also has three sisters in town and this makes for wonderful family visiting. The Fun Club met last week at the home of Mrs. Hazel Rose for their meeting. The hostess served a hot luncheon and the women spent the evening sewing and visiting. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Fronk accompanied their friends, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Smith of Salt Lake, to Burley, Idaho last Wednesday. Mr. Smith was going there on business. While they were in Burley Mr. and Mrs. Fronk visited for a while with Mr. Ed Fronk. Ed is a former resident of Tremonton and is in business now in Burley. Mrs. Strohl returned to their California homes on Saturday of last week. Mr. and Mrs. Verl Anderson have returned from a most delightful visit overseas. They spent a month at Rhamstein Air Base in Germany visiting with Sgt. and Mrs. Dennis Barr and their two young sons. Mrs. Barr is their daughter, Barbara. Accompanying the and their young son. Mrs. Brink is a daughter of the Christ-ensen- 's. Another daughter, Mrs. Keith (Deo) Johnson of Bear River City, went with Mer and Priscilla. The weather and scenery were especially lovely for their trip and it was nice to have their daughter with them to assist with the driving. In Society NELL PUZEY Mrs. Ed Kerr was hostess to the members of the VGF Club which had their regular meeting at her home last Tuesday evening. The women enjoyed an evening of sewing and visiting and were served a lovely luncheon by the hostess. Bishopric Sustained Elder Laws Elder Laws To Be Feted Elder' James G. Laws, son of Mr, and Mrs. Joe Laws, has recently returned from the Central California Mission. He will be honored at a homecoming Sunday, October 21, in the Tremonton 6th Ward. Friends and relatives are cordially invited to attend this meeting. A new bishopric was sustained last Sunday in the Howell Ward of the Bear River Stake. The newly sustained ward authorities include Waldo F. Grant, bishop; H. Leon Kotter, first counselor; and Barry R. Soren-se- n, as second counselor. The new bishopric will succeed Mariner D. Munk, bishop, and Lyle D. Nessen and Dennis Payne, first and second counselors, respectively. Dr. and Mrs. Max Davis and their daughter, Ton! were In Coombs before returning to their home. Mrs. Leona Standing of Ogden has returned to her home following a visit in Tremonton. She spent five days visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Miller. She is the mother of Mrs. Miller. Tremonton visiting with friends and former neighbors last FriMr. and Mrs. LaMont day. Vance were with them. The Davis family now lives in Las Vegas. Their daughter, TonL is attending USU in Logan. They lived near the Wayne Fronks when they were in Tremonton and visited with them duringthe Fourteen members of the Sixth Ward Study Group met at the home of Mr. apd Mrs. Ralph Kotter Sunday evening. They were fascinated by an account given by Sally Kotter of her experiences with a group of students from the Brigham Young University who have returned from a months Survival trip. There were thirty eight students in the group which began their trip from Green River. From there they travelled through the Canyonlands of South Utah and finished their trek in Boulder Utah. All of the trip was made on foot and Sally estimates that they walked two hundred miles. They survived for the month on what they could find to eat. She reports that a diet of pine nuts, acorns, cactus, prickly pear fruit, rose hips and Brigham Tea does wonderful things for the waistline. Part of the trip is spent in isolation. Each on the adventure member spends one week entirely on his own and survives by his own ingenuity. Sally says that the wonderful part of the experience is the closeness that the group develops and the dependence and appreciation that the members gain from each other. Sally returned home on Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Fronk had as overnight guests last Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Hawkins of Ogden. Mr. Hawkins recently moved from Tremonton where he was a scout executive. He is now interested in the scouting program in Ogden. He came to be present at a Court of Honor held Sunday night in Garland. Mrs. Haw kins remained to visit with Mrs. Fronk on Monday while her husband was attending meetings connected with his work. Mr. and Mrs. Garland Puzey were in Roy last Monday night to have dinner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Puzey and family. Paul was celebrating his birthday as was Miss Kathleen Puzey who had her second birthday. Other guests at the Puzey home were Mr. and Mrs. Bob Puzey and family of Ogden. Dinner and birthday cake fol lowed the Family Night er. Howell to enjoy the day together. Mr. and Mrs. David Kotter of Ogden and Sally and Dixie of Provo were together with their Dixie Is attending parents. BYU and after a week at home following her trip, Sally will be back In Provo to resume her schooling at BYU. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Valentine of Harrisville were in Tremonton Sunday where they partici pated in Sacrament Meeting. The Valentine family formerly lived in Tremonton. Mr. Val intine recently served as Mission President of the Texas Southern Mission. Following meeting they were guests atthe home of Bishop and Mrs. Theo day. ' ' y Mr. and Mrs. M.L. Morgan have their daughter-in-laTamra, visiting at their home for a few days. She is the wife of their son, Steven. The Steven Morgan's and their two children make their home in w, Mountain Home, Idaho, where he is stationed with the US Air Force. He is currently in Thai- land where he is flying with the Air Force. . Mr. and Mrs. Arch Showell spent a few days visiting in American Fork with Mr. and Mrs. Harold Holley. The women are sisters. Linda Jenkins and Wayne Earl Couple To Wed Jessie Sharp of Preston spent the weekend visiting atthe home of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Archibald. She works in Salt Lake and is from Preston, Idaho. She is the fiancee of David Archibald, their son. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Jenkins of Tremonton, announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Linda, to Wayne Earl, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Earl of 526 West 1st North, Brigham City. The young couple has chosen November 2, as their wedding date with rites to be performed in the Ogden Temple. Patriarch. Grimnhaw will officiate. They will be honored that same evening at a reception held in Ward the Thatcher-Penro- se Cultural Hall from 8 p.m. un- Dr. and Mrs. George Ficklin spent the weekend in Provo where they visited with Mr. and Mrs. Doug Ficklin and Mr. and Mrs. Kent Ficklin. They enjoyed seeing the BYU football game while they Were there. The weather was just right for the game and the ride down and back.
