My wife and I traveled through ten states, visiting parks, monuments and places of historical interest We observed much beauty and some ugliness. We took time to watch people, to talk with people, visit public places and with an eye to the sky and an ear to the ground we attempted in our way, to find out what makes America what it is today. After fighting traffic and crowded places for three weeks it seemed so good to get back home, but that wasn't enouth so my two youngest sons and I packed our horses and hid away 20 miles back in the heart of the wilderness area of the majestic Uintah Mts. for five days. The alpine tundra flower gardens were at perfection. The gentle rains brought out their most vivid colors and their bloom was most perfuse. At the base of sheer rockie cliffs rising a thousand feetand more, nestled beautiful lakes, green grass and trees, snow fields and natures flowergardens. ft was good to be there way away from so called civilization and feel so close to He who organized the beautiful little earth on which we dwell. Yes, we fished and caught our share and it was fun, but the greatest reward was the pleasure, Joy and spiritual rejuvenation we received. We hiked to the top of a mountain 12,000 feet high and peered down to the first waters of the Bear River that eventually gives drink to the thirsty crops of oar valley. It has been a wonderful summer for us. Sandra Stine Kara Johnston "Miss Talent" "Miss Vickie Lee Garn Congeniality" Dixie Kotter Miss Wheat & Beet Queen (Cont. From Page Miss Vckie Lea Garn. The second Item of concern was the so called "Senior Citizen Center.-W- hy a federal grant for such a place? The federal government has no money except what it takes from working I don't want government to people. take that which belongs to someone else and give It to me. This is criminal and unconstitutionaL I rather resent the classification "Senior Citizen." I became a citizen of the U.S.A. when I reached 21 years of age, am still a citizen and shall be as long as I live. Who Is to say at what age a person becomes a "Senior Citizen?" I am opposed to a man being retired at 65 or any other age. The Lord said, "By the sweat of thy face shaft thou eat bread all the days of thy life." He also said, "Six days shaft thou labor" not four and a half or five days a week but six. There are so many wonderful things I would like to do, so many places I would like to go, so many good books I would like to read, so many hobbies I would like to work at if I only had time. My Church and family creat for me so much opportunity for recreation, education and entertainment I see no need for money to be spent on a so called Senior Citizen Center. Two items caught my attention and concern. This is mj real purpose for writing this letter. First I noticed that the long finger of Federal and State Government had reached into Tremonton and put unpleasant pressure upon my friends who reside at the Melody Park area. This is not good. Local problems should be handled and solved by the local people involved. . It is a brazen and trite gesture of an unelected government official to say, "After all the government does own the houses and surely aught to be able to use them as it sees fit" Who is the Government and where does it get its money? Some feil to realize that the only source of revenue that government has is what it "takes" from the people under the guise of taxation. Much of the money extracted from the honest working people today under the guise of taxes Is used for purposes unauthorized by the Constitution of the United States of America. This is usurpation of power. The Constitution neither gives government the right to enter business in competition with private enterprise or to meddle into social welfare. When men, operating government enter these fields they usurp authority. Our Federal Government has become too big and combe rsome. Bureaus within bureaus, agencies on top of agencies, committees beside committees and every bureau of agency becomes a little kingdom perpetuating itself by employing more people and creating more unnecessary jobs until half the people are working for and are dependant on government and the rest are working their hearts out to pay, though taxes, their wages and waste. The best way I knowof getting federal government out of our private lives it to have the so called "Liberty Amendment" inacted into law. I would encourage every citizen to get a copy of this document and study it thoroughly, then get our congressmen to work on getting it passed. Seventeen states have radiSed it Utah I am sorry to say, missed ratifying it by only two votes in its last general session. Some congressmen voting against it had never read it If this "Liberty Amendment" could become law, we Leonard M.
