Show LEADER The Tremonxon. Utah Thursday. April 25. Safety Program Presented By Red Cross A fine exhibition of water safety measures was shown Thursday evening at the In- termountain School pool. Max Mason, of Tremonton, staged the event for the benefit of the Box Elder County American Red Cross Board of Directors and persons interested in water Instruction. Mr. Mason is field representative for Safety Services for the Red Cross in northern Utah and eastern Nevada. Instruction was given on lifesaving from boat accidents. Mason pointed out that the boat itself is the most valuable life preserver and should not be left. Many people lost their lives trying to swim away from an over-- j turned craft. Self rescue wasi taught by showing how to use various pieces of clothing as improvised life preservers. The audience was surprised to hear that a very high per centage of drownings take place within 5 feet of the were shore. The shown a number of ways that rescue could be safely accom plished without the rescuer getting into the water. was discussed. Lindred Onsac, Roz Seare, Ellie Thompson and Thornton Smith very capably assisted Mason in the program. Jesse Haws, Red Cross Field Director from Salt Lake City, attended the meeting.
