Call AL !!!!' Aside from Congressional action raising benefits for all receiving monthly social security checks, the only way a retired worker's benefit amount can be increased is through additional earnings covered by social security. In making this announcement, Jay M. Hansen of the Ogden social security office stated that the worker's average monthly earnings over various periods of time determine the amount of his monthly social security check. If he works after starting to receive social security benefits for less money than he was earning before, the additional earnings will not usually affect the amount of his social security benefit. Low earnings after starting to get checks can result in a raise for those whose retirement checks started before September 1954. Bl earning six quarters of coverage after June 1953, he can become eligible to have his benefit amount refigured. This will raise his average earnings over the remaining period and result in an increased check. Those who first became entitled to social security checks can have their benefits refigured only if they earn over S120Q in some year after the year they apply for payments. If the additional earnings raise the avethe amount, rage earnings worker's benefit check will be increased.
