Utah TWIN CHICKS ARE AN ODDITY OF NATURE SO RARE - that even professional hatcherymen seldom see them. The pair of White Leghorn chicks, pictured above, was recently hatched from one egg at the Ralston Purina Research Farm near Gray Summit, Missouri. They were only the second set of unattached twins hatched at the Purian Farm in a quarter of a century, and some 50,000 chicks are hatched each year. Double-yol- k eggs are seldom placed in the incubators, but even when they are, embryos rarely develop normally. Chick embryos must feed on nutrients inside the egg as they develop. Nutrients inside the egg come largely from the feed the hen eats. Ordinarily if twin chick embryos start to form, they will die before they develop to the hatching I LEAVE FOR CALIFORNIA SPONGE MOP J 5J .
